Back to basics: Goldporn

in #steemsilvergold7 years ago (edited)

Hey steemies and SSG brothers and sisters!

For a while I have been on a mission to photograph some of my low mintage silver, I thought it would be nice to go back to my bullion, it felt a little tossed aside for a while. With work coming soon (hopefully)I don't know how much time I will have to play around with the camera but I will finally be able to scratch the stackitis itch, I have a feeling I will be like a kid picking gummy worms for the first time once I hit up the LCS (I'm sure he will be happy of our return too!). While figuring out what will be next on my list of loot conquest, I came across some pieces I may have forgotten I thought deserved a bit of a photo-shoot.

That's for you my brothers from the south! I mainly hold Canadian and RCM products but on occasion, when the price is right I do enjoy your Lady Liberty! 1924 was once thought to be one of the rare years of the Double Eagle due to FDR's gold confiscation in 1933 but a butt load was found in European vaults and made it's way back home and now considered the most common year available.

I walked in to the LCS looking for 1 troy oz of RCM bullion but turns out they had sold all of the 1 oz bullion they had and my only other option was to get a bunch of gram bars instead. I wasn't too thrilled at all the loose tiny stuff and figured I would just go order it online instead, Friendly Neighborhood LCS can't let that happen! Then he came back with the Double Eagle and gave me a good deal at close to spot. I almost didn't buy it but in hindsight I'm glad I did, she's a pretty lady and worthy to be in the stack! I Know nothing about coin grading so if you can help me out in the comments as to what grade/condition it might be , it would be appreciated.

She's no Lady Liberty but she still holds a special place in my stack! There will be more of her added this year for sure. RCM has beautifully crafted buillon coins ranging from 1 gram all the way to 1 kg with everything in between. The 1oz coin carries a bit more premium than it's bar counterpart. This one is a half ounce, still carries a bit of a premium but it is more reasonable compared to the smaller 1/10 th or 1/4 oz. 1 oz full ounce can be a lofty purchase for most of us, it makes it easier to still get ahead with the goal without having to save forever.

I like our Canadian bullion because of all the beautiful fine details that go into crafting every coin. As pretty as they are, the intricate details are actually a fingerprint against counterfeiting. Just like the P.A.M.P Swiss bars, they can be identified in a specialized scanner as legitimate so there is no need for scratch/acid test to identify. Part of the reason I dish out the extra dough for RCM over generic bulion. I know gold is gold but I want an easy sell if I ever have to cash it in a pinch or ever want to include it in RRSP or other legitimate investment plan (not much chance in that ever happening but you never know)and these should be easily recognized just about anywhere since they are government issued.

This may be a tall order but I'm hoping this year to make a set and get one of each of the sizes available in the 2018 maple leaf, even the tiny ones, just to have one. This would include 1 gram, 1/20th oz , 1/10th oz, 1/4 oz, 1/2 oz and the mother lode 1 ouncer.

What business does a Canadian toonie have to do in a gold post you ask? Well this one is different, It's minted in silver with a gold plated center. They can usually be found in special sets but when they come back to the LCS for resale sometimes it's easier to break-up the set and sell one piece at a time and some get left over and can be had at a good deal compared to original purchase price. In this case the toonie was the special edition coin in the set, I'm not sure how it got left over but I'll take it! It is possible to buy a white gold and full yellow gold center but it's a bit $$, could possibly be on my to do list(I assure you this list is getting long!)

Alright that's all folks!! peace xox

I need to get my collection more balanced and add some gold to it this year...silver is always so tempting because I like feeling the weight of it when I hold it and it doesn't cost a small fortune to get a decent amount of it.

I've always wanted to buy a 1 oz gold coin but the closest I have is a fractional coin that's somewhere around a half ounce. Maybe this will be the year I pull the trigger on the purchase of one.

Those are some nice shots you took, btw. Keep on stackin and I hope you're able to acquire that full set that you're seeking this year.

I need to do that too! I prefer gold but I mainly have silver because it's so much easier to buy! I would like to have 1:1 in value at some point. I also get the smaller gold pieces when I pick up silver, it help. 1/2 ounce is a good size chunk and cuts down on premium substantially. Once you pop your 1 oz cherry it becomes easier to get them, seems like a lot the first time but once you hold it, totally worth it! I usually get them around tax time with my refund...it's money that was already gone anyway. Thanks for stopping by and stack on :)

Nice gold pieces, i like you goals for Gold. I have to do the same thing or i'll spend all my money on silver. Thanks for sharing

hehe I do the same, I have to set gold goals or it all goes for silver. It's just easier to buy a 10 oz silver bar and less premium. I prefer gold but i'm definitely silver heavy big time. Thanks for stopping by!

I like the toonie. Very nice.

Heck I kind of just like regular old circulated toonies. You money 🇨🇦 is cooler than ours. 🇺🇸

☺️

lol I like the regular circulation ones too, I pick them out of my change all the time especially the remembrance day designs, I builds up after a while. This design was also in circulation just not in silver. Our money is pretty cool, they have many circulating commemorative coins and bills including quarters and loonies, $20 bill in 2016, a $10 dollar bill last year and another $10 bill just came out a few days ago on women's day that features the first female to be on our bills aside the queen(I still have to get my hands on that one) gotta get em crisp right away or they get in bent and in bad shape fast. I have a few of your old US silver certificates, I think those are pretty cool too. Thanks for stopping by!
