Historical Tag Analysis for SteemSilverGold : October 2018 Update

in #steemsilvergold6 years ago

Activity on STEEM has been dropping in 2018 but how has the #SteemSilverGold community been holding up? I’ve seen a few comments here and there with people lamenting that maybe it’s a bit too quiet so I thought I’d pull out some of my old data queries and just have a look to see if we can quantify things a bit. I last did a Historical Tag Analysis for SteemSilverGold back in May and it showed the community going strong. Has anything really changed?

The first chart to look at is the number of Posts made on STEEM that use #SteemSilverGold as the first tag and it’s shown by the Blue plot against the left axis. I’ve got a comparison to the total number of Posts made on STEEM which is shown by the Green plot against the right axis. What does the trend tell us?

There is a bit of a declining trend shown on both plots, but there is a pretty clear indicator that relatively speaking #SteemSilverGold is doing better than the overall platform. Particularly around June and July there was a sharp drop-off for the platform but #SteemSilverGold is well above it and there is some clear daylight between the two plots. It is also very visible the effect that Hard Fork 20 has had on both plots late September. We can see a big drop in both plots as the platform had some technical issues, but while overall platform activity has stayed lower, #SteemSilverGold has bounced back strongly and it even looks like it’s started trending up again in October. This is very positive!

Looking at the Comments over the same period the same trends appear evident. The drop off after Hard Fork 20 is even more pronounced here with Comments on the platform overall dropping from around 70,000 per day to under 50,000 while #SteemSilverGold again is holding up really well. Some might argue that the big drop on the platform is because 20,000 spam comments have been removed, but that's suggesting almost 30% of comments were spam before Hard Fork 20. It is hard to prove and it’s just as likely that the poorer accounts are just running out of Resource Credits. I won’t go into that here but I am very happy to see that #SteemSilverGold is again bouncing back strongly, possibly because the community has rallied to help out any poorer accounts who were running short of Resource Credits when Commenting.

I know that many have been lamenting the overall bear market in Crypto and the STEEM platform activity overall, but from the charts above I think we can quantify and prove that #SteemSilverGold is still doing very well. There is still a very solid core community that is active and there is still some great content and discussion being created here that indicates that this community is definitely doing something right. I personally haven’t been as active lately but it’s good to know that #SteemSilverGold is still going strong. Long may it continue!

Great analysis, @buggedout! Good to see that SSG is representing well, even after HF20. We're a good group and I'm glad to be a part of it.

Cheers. I still believe that SSG is a model for how communities really should be operating on STEEM, but all SSG can do is lead by example.

I think one thing that really sets SSG apart is that most of us really like precious metals and would post about them regardless of whether or not we got paid. As long as we're in a group of people who also like the shiny, we're down to post. That's kept a majority of the active members posting, even with the difficulties. Sure, there are some members that have dropped off, life happens and things change. But it's good to see a lot of familiar faces here.

Totally agree. Once you realise that the value of the platform is in the content and the community - not the rewards, it doesn't really matter what the price of steem does.

I didn't notice un till you brought this up, no spam!

In Dutch we say "Meten is weten" meaning to measure is to know but in Dutch it rimes.

Very good. The Dutch sound like my kind of peoples :)

#ssg4life As always, great technical data and now we know #steemsilvergold is the place to be 👍

Plus I just noticed you posted for 3 days in a row..... #comeback

Thanks. There is a few reasons for it. Not really a comeback but I'll explain what's going on shortly ;)

I'm on the edge of my seat in anticipation!! 😂😂😂

The Steem posts green line looks exactly like any crypto price chart for the same period.

Absolutely. The correlation is pretty uncanny. I guess activity on STEEM is a direct indication of broader sentiment for crypto. Make sense but I would have hoped the retention rates for users on STEEM would be better....the churn rate is pretty horrific IMHO.

Really cool stats. I wondered about this. Thanks for sharing @buggedout!
