Steem Saturday Johannesburg confirmed for 29 October 2016

in #steemsaturday8 years ago (edited)

I am proud to announce that the first Steem Saturday will be held on 19 October 2016 in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Thank you very much for @ned in supporting us by flying out to South Africa to join us at this first STEEM Saturday event.

Ned will be doing the Opening and Closing Keynote presentations at the event and will be available at the event for some questions that anybody may have.

Steem as a platform has come a long way since going live not so long ago. Except for the multiple new SteemTools that has been developed over the past few weeks, the community growing steadily as expected and the various meetups that has been held in the various countries. We now are starting to have real world engagements at various events.

The mission of Steem Saturday:

The Steem Saturday event is open to anybody to arrange in their City or region. Our aim is to have one Steem Saturday event each Saturday somewhere in the world. Please volunteer for arranging the event in your city or area, by contacting me by Direct Message on Steemit Chat using my @jacor handle. We will support and guide you when arranging the event. It will not cost you money, only a bit of your time.

The event will be sponsor funded. Trust me it is very easy to get sponsors for these events as the blockchain and crypto currency is taking the world by storm.

The event will be limited to 100 - 120 attendees and it will be free to register and attend

Steem Saturday Website

The website will look similar to the image above. This is just an example and the events are not arranged or planned yet

We are in the process of going live with a website, which will not only be used for this specific event, but it is open for use by any individual who want to arrange an event in their city. Due to the short timeframes before the first event it will be a very basic site but we will add functionality as we grow the Steem Saturday events throughout the world.

The basic functionality will be as follow:

Event Registration

You will be able to add a Date for your event and add an image for your city or area.

Event Agenda and Speakers

You will be able to create your Agenda specific for the event, and add a list of your Speakers.

User Registration

End Users and attendees will be able to register for the event and receive and e-ticket for display at the venue on the day of the event.

On the day of the event

Attendees will get nametags for the day and enjoy the day at the event.

As you can see the website will be very basic. The initial website will be built on old tech like windows C# or Java, from where we will rebuild the functionality on the blockchain :)

Back to the event for 29 October 2016

In future events we will have a technical track and a business track.

I am still awaiting confirmation of the availability of the other 4 Speakers and this will be confirmed within the next week or so. I can promise you that we have an interesting line-up of Speakers.

Please watch this space. We will be updating you frequently on the process and the venue of the event will be confirmed within the next few days.

I urge everyone to consider arranging an event in your region / city. It does not take that much time to arrange. We already have people from 3 different continents showing interest to arrange the event in their area

Thanks again to @ned for confirming his attendance. We promise that you will have an excellent time in South Africa and it will be a worthwhile trip.

Happy Steeming!

Hey @jacor, I would love to do one for Melbourne, Australia. Please let me know how to get started.
I think you have my email. Otherwise you can reach me at [email protected]

Hi @nextgen622 , I love it! I will be in touch in the next few days.

Great. Look forward to it.

Hi @jacor I can do one for Dubai. Please include Oct 1?

I was alone in my first meetup call :(

Done! We'll touch base soon!

Nice post

Interesting idea.

Who is the target audience? What will be the topics discussed by the speakers? Is it about what Steemit is and how to improve it? Such as ideas, projects, new features, the future of the platform? I am wondering about the goal and what is the objective to achieve. To get people to go, you should have a goal set to attract people who are interested.

Thanks. Peace.

I'll be there!
