You are right, Steempress combine with WordPress is really friendly for SEO.
I have made an experiment. I had made a post on steemit then also put that post at Kompasiana and gived it backlink to my original post on Steemit.
When I try searching through Google with same title, the result is only came up from Kompasiana. I think, Steemit.com is not too friendly for SEO. 😊

Did you allow enough time for Google crawler to notice and index your Steemit post before you published on the other site? Otherwise one or both sites may be penalized for ranking (most likely Steemit), because Google thinks all you want to do it try to build up your backlinks.
Steempress has the option to post on Steemit AFTER a certain amount of time (which you can change), so that it doesn't hurt SEO.
Yes, I did it, but Kompasiana have good traffic, the founder claim that around 6000-60.000 visitors visit that joint blogging platform in a day (I forgot about the precise amount visitors, the founder ever mentioned in his book).
So, is it because an huge gap in amount of visitor, maybe Google choose to penalized steemit?

Ok, here's what I think. Google indexes much easier pages that can be easily accessible from the home page of the interface. It won't spend too much time crawling any website. Or it will go deeper much less often.
Thus, trending, hot, promoted (within all tags most likely), and pinned posts have the highest chances of being indexed.
If your post wasn't long enough for Google to notice it on any of those categories on any (reputable?) Steem interface, I think it is likely it wasn't indexed.

I agree! Google goes through a content like a human does (with some exceptions).
Is it easily accessible? Google will find it quickly.
Do you show your readers (so Google too) the way to the content? They will find it, if it's not much work to be done.
Do others who Google appreciate say nice things about it (read: do you have backlinks on authoritative domains)? Google will appreciate it.

To be fair, Paula, there are benefits to enabling the the comments widget on your blog, but SEO on the Wordpress blog is not one of them. Because the comments widget is included within a
<iframe>block, and Google doesn't crawl that content.But SteemPress as a whole should be very helpful to most bloggers and I enjoyed your presentation.
I have to disagree. Iframes can be searched by google, just not if you are using custom search on your website or under a few other circumstances.. Disqus comments are iframe and these are indexed. FB comments are also IFrame, but I am not so sure these are searched. So a few weeks back I spoke with the steempres team on this, as i wanted to see if the comments would give benefit to steem or the wp site. They said it should benifit both. So I checked the code.
As you can see, the true parent link is back to my website. From what I understand, if the Iframe is SEO engaged, then it will be crawled. However, if I took content from a different site, placed it on my website with an iframe, this will probably not be crawled.
As with everything on the seo side, you can read conflicting stories. Testing is the only way to prove it

So, maybe they started to crawl iframes to some extent.
Also, not sure if this is an authority, but the first result I've been showed by Google when searching for "iframes good or bad for seo" was this answer from Quora:

So the source/parent is defined in the steempress iframe to be my own page.
I gotta run some tests. This site is too new, I dont even have my ssl cos the hosting messed up. But once it's all sorted I be in a better position to run tests

Ok, testing never hurts.
Although, as you could see in Google's comment on this matter, they tend to disapprove of the use of iframes. But they rarely say it straight.
But if testing shows Steempress comment plugin is ok for SEO, than even one more point for using it.
