Reading with Luke

I have been reading to my son every night before bed since he was 1 years old. He was always interested in books. When he started daycare they told us that he would often just sit with a book and pretend to read it. I as he got a handle on the alphabet I started to make sure I was reading basic books that had a lot of sight words hoping that he would pick some of them up. When he was 4 I would pick books that had repetitive words and would have him read that work out loud when them came up.

Since he turned 5 he has been reading fairly well. I would often read a book and have him attempt the easier sentences. Recently he has really improved and can read many of the beginner books on his own. My original plan with the "Reading with Luke" series was capture him and I reading some of his favourite books together. This way he could look back at it when he is older or when he has kids of his own, or heaven forbid something happens to me it would be something great that he could remember me by .

When I attempted our first book "Just me and my Dad by Mercer Mayer" he read the entire thing on his own expect for a couple of words. So it is more of "Luke Reading" than "Reading with Luke".
