Fun Facts

About a decade ago U.S. border patrol started using drones for surveillance and few people worried. After all almost no one care's if the government monitors the U.S. southern border. If you believed that drones would be used for domestic surveillance, you were likely labeled a conspiracy theorist. However, by 2012 border patrol had loaned out it's drones to other agencies at least 700 times. The Department of Homeland Security also quickly began developing a domestic drone fleet which was supported by at least 60 members of Congress.

“This bipartisan caucus, together with its allies in the drone industry, has been promoting UAV use at home and abroad through drone fairs on Capitol Hill, new legislation and drone-favored budgets,”

-The Center for International Policy

By 2013 the federal government had given local police departments $1.2 million to spend on surveillance drones in that year alone. And in 2015 the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms purchase 6 drones totaling $600,000.

“then never flew them because of technical problems with flight time, maneuverability and more.”

-NBC News

Which brings us to 2016 when it was reported that the Pentagon ...

“has deployed drones to spy over U.S. territory for non-military missions over the past decade,”

-USA Today

Officials speaking on behalf of the federal government claim that these aerial surveillance missions over American soil are rare, safe and legal.

But that's not the case.

There are simply too many aircraft used for surveillance over the U.S. to maintain that aerial spying is "rare". With little oversight there is barely room to presume that these flights are legal. And regarding safety, no one knows what, if any, sort of data has been archived or how secure it is when it comes to aerial surveillance. For just $40, Nils Rodday was able to hack into and take over professional drones.

Fait accompli

a thing that has already happened or been decided before those affected hear about it, leaving them with no option but to accept.

Thanks cleve! :)

Cool comic - it is funny but makes a serious point:

I think we need to be careful with drones. They are already being used to bomb civilians abroad (it's OK once they are dead they can't deny they are terrorists) and this only serves to create new terrorists.

Our governments keep doing it because it is relatively cheap and nobody really seems to care.

How long will it be before they start using them against us?

You have a cryptocurrency that threatens the dollar? Then you are a terrorist SO you get droned.

You're voicing opinions the government doesn't like? Then you get droned too.

It could happen and to be honest with the way things are going I would not be surprised.

Unfortunately IT IS NOT FUNNY but SAD AND TRUE.

Not to mention a tiny item of bombing innocent civilians with the drones all over the planet.

What can we do? Disrupt communication channels somehow?

Is there something similar to cloudbusters when it comes to drones?

Disc. I am not an affiliate with CTBusters :)

This is funny and sad at the same time, but I dont know if times have changed much today.
