It is with great pleasure that I welcome you the twenty-seventh edition of SteemMag, a weekend digest for Steemians.

Every week, I take a look at some of the most important topics and have a chat with top Steemians who have expert views on such topics.

This weekend’s SteemMag is going to touch on quite a number of pressing issues currently affecting Steemians – Price, Comments rewards pool among others.

SteemMag had a chat with @abit, a whale championing the rewards of comments for a number of weeks now.

I also had a chat with @nanzo-scoop, one of several investors of Steem powering up this week.

SteemMag: Why did you decide to start rewarding comments? And have you noticed any effect so far since you started?

@abit:
(1) to reward engagement. (2) to avoid voting on plagiarisms. (3) to earn more curation rewards (easier to get around the front running bots)

In regards to effects, actually I don't know how much it is.


SM: What is your thought on the proposed niche communities?

@abit:
Niche communities: It's a good idea, but it still needs huge efforts to be possible to succeed. I had tried to run a cn-programming community for a short period, my conclusion is: it's not easy.

I’m in STEEM for the long term. I’m powering up because of where I see STEEM (and Steemit) in 12 months time.

8 months ago I set myself a target to Grow my share of Steem Power from 0.05% to 0.1% of Steemit’s market cap.. I’ve achieved that target at a price I’m comfortable with. I’m also relaxed if things don’t pan out. ->Mo' Money, Mo' Problems - how to keep calm in the storm of Rewards mania!

As I also wrote back then in the same post,

Sometimes in life, if you find something good you have to go for it. Commit to it. Live for it. If you fall on your face, you’ll get up stronger. At least you tried to live the dream.

I still feel pretty much the same.


SM: What is your opinion on the current situation of Steem and Steemit?

I’ve noticed there has been a lot of discussion around rewards and voting. Outside of all the noise and drama, I see some bright minds coming up with good suggestions.

That’s the nature of STEEM. While other coins have private slacks with a handful of like-minded individuals discussing its direction. STEEM has a room full of diverse people plastering their thoughts in an unfiltered manner on the ‘frontpage’ of the currency, Steemit.

I trust @dan and @ned to pick through the debris and package the gems in a proposal. They have proven adept at doing this so far.

Fundamentally STEEM is strong. It has an excellent dev team. A vibrant community. And in Steemit the best on-boarding ramp, that will only get better. It just needs to iron out the kinks on rewards and voting.

There's some gems in there this week again, thanks for sharing. I have noticed a few people giving extra SBD to comment sI had left, just so you know @abit is not the only one doing so, and it is very encouraging for many of us little ones. It feels like a pat on the back for good behaviour sort of idea.

I have also noticed that bots used by highly reputable people voted on some seriously detrimental content, as I can't rationally see their intellect or persona doing the vote in person. If it were the case, I'd have to leave the platform right now. So, this made me wonder how much leverage the bots give to people who are actually slowly but surely undermining the community? I wonder who could answer this one as it has to do with a matter of curation vs. Steem Power given to these individuals...

Anyway, thanks again for another good read, powerful comments and realistic and positive outlooks. Namaste :)

Nice to have you drop by again @eric-boucher. I do agree with you.. Sometimes, those who assign voting power to bots need to crosscheck it once in awhile..

Whales are People too! lol

I am very encouraged by quiet and fair practices by everyone, whales included.

Some people are always going to have issues, or take agency with anything someone does, and it is always fair and balanced to listen to things as to why someone will do something. We may disagree or agree.

The key is to try to remain respectful..... sometimes you get to the end of your rope or get upset..... myself included.


I also wanted to say to @infovore and team --- I do not comment here much but I try and read your stuff on here, it = good value for this community and I wanted to take time today, to say that, and encourage you!!

About abit, i see what he is doing and i am a fan. his passion for community is evident. he almost seems like the only one consciously looking for amazing comments to upvote and stir community. i am fan! @infovore we havent talked till date and we should. just saw nanzo scoop today for the first time and i am with him on the model steem build upon even though i dont know much crypto-stuff, i see many great minds on steemit thus i see steem fixing itself. "mining with minds" is a genius model and is why steemit will eventually get fixed and that is if it not in order currently!

You know how I feel about you SG. You are a gem on here, you are so active and engaged and give insightful stuff EVERY DAY here to this community --- and everyone else in your daily life, I imagine.
