Just north of Tampere city centre, in Näsijärvi (Näsilake) is Siilinkari. It's a rock that has a #lighthouse in it. Just few hundred meters from #Tampere city shoreline.
The lighthouse is actually a sector light, built in 1906. In September 7th, 1929 the steamboat Kuru got in to cross sea, sank in the storm near Siilinkari and took 136 lives with it. There were 150 passengers and 12 crew members on board that day. The accident is the worst freshwater boat disaster in Finland.
Here's the lighthouse photographed in the spring. See the tiny dot there? Yes, that is the closest I could get at that time. It's just few hundred meters from the shore.
In the #winter you can walk or ski to the lighthouse. Or you can skate on a skating track, that goes past the Siilinkari, the lighthouse and a tent cafe near the lighthouse that has hot drinks and doughnuts sold there. You can rent skates if you don't happen to have a pair with you.
These photos were taken March 3rd 2018. It's not yet recommended to go to the ice, but any day now. So enjoy the photos and see you on the ice when it's safe to go there. :)

Sun starting to set. At march, the twilight time lasts about 45 minutes in Tampere. So you have plenty of time to catch all the different colors that the #sunset has planned for you. If it's not cloudy or snowing.

Welcome to Tampere, Finland!
Remember to wear lots and lots of warm clothes. This weekend 26th and 27th of January 2019, the weather forecast has promised -10° to -20°C temperatures. And if you happen to miss Tampere and drive past it because it's only a city by Finnish standards, population about 233 000, be sure to wear more than just warm clothes. -20° to -30°C predicted to the Northern parts of Finland. Freezing!
