A very special thanks to our week 38 contestants! Your level of enthusiasm, creativity and hilarity were beyond expectation as per usual!

SSC Official Week 38 Sponsor(s): @homecook @jaybird

A very big shout out to all our supporters and especially our Sponsors and Donors who are crucial in upping the prize pool each week. We'd be grateful to have any new Sponsors! Past Sponsors include @bleedpoet @artwatch @gringalicious @doitvoluntarily @papa-pepper @homecook

THIS WEEKS WINNERS ARE:

There were a few Contestants worthy of recognition, but first!

First Prize Winner

@alansthoughs

  1. For (probably at least 3 great entries) but more specifically for this epic one: https://steemit.com/steemitsandwichcontest/@alansthoughs/steemit-sandwich-contest-week-38-a-little-intro-to-my-culture-2

  2. Self imposing the theme "meat" for all his entries this week Alan took us on a journey emphasizing tradition/cultural dishes from Malaysia. This particular entry ft. Chinese culture was a really banger IMO!

  3. Let's start with Pork Heart...Besides "heart of Palm," No one has every used the heart of anything else in SSC History. What ballz lol. While initially seeing a heart is kind of off-putting, I've got to say he did an excellent job of utilizing this ingredient and turning it into something truly appetizing. I also want to point out that the cultural ideal "nothing goes to waste" is very admirable. If you're going to use another being as food, it's important to have respect for the "ultimate sacrifice." North American Culture in particular appears to have some deep roots in "waste" and "we" could all really learn something by allowing other cultural ideals to influence us in places where we might be deficient/ignorant.

  4. Back to the sandwich. A number of other interesting ingredients were used in this sandwich. Homemade Rendang paste (i did not even know what that was) which is basically a combination of spices, Stale bread lol & fried shallots. So much preparation went into this gem of a creation and it was presented epically!

  5. Great job Alan on all of your entries this week. Good luck with the "Springtime" theme this week!

Second Prize & the new Week 38 Veto Vote Holder:

@lizelle

https:

https:https://steemit.com/steemitsandwichcontest/@lizelle/steemitsandwichcontest-week-38-baked-chicken-mayo-plaited-sandwich

This is what @alanthoughs our week 38 Veto Voter had to say about this entry

  1. I have to choose @lizelle with her entry https://steemit.com/steemitsandwichcontest/@lizelle/steemitsandwichcontest-week-38-baked-chicken-mayo-plaited-sandwich to take the second place.

  2. Although the filling is pretty simple, the flavor work is harmonious. But what really made me choose this is more on the how she made the bread. The idea of this bread is unique and beautiful to the eyes. Nonetheless, I do agree with her that using whole wheat flour does contributes to a nutty flavor and adds a nice fibrous bit to it. And if that wasn't enough, she added the linseed flour which adds another layer of flavor to this bread!

  3. Alan closed off his choice by added "...(jaybird) man i do pity you, it's really hard finding a winner!" lol.

@homecook our week 38 guest judge selecting 3rd prize also chimed in sighting this entry:

  1. "I think @lizelle killed it this week!!!!!!"

  2. This chicken mayo plaited sandwich is one of the best idea i've seen in a while!! Home made bread, stuffed with chicken, cheese and mayo - so carefully plaited and baked! I loved the technique @lizelle showcased, because this kind of bread could be stuffed with any kind of ingredient! And it's super portable as well! What a smashing entry!!"

Our 3rd Prize Winner for Steemit Sandwich Contest was chosen by @homecook one of our Week 38 Sponsors and also an avid participant in SSC.... and it goes to [Big Drum Roll]

@loveself

https://steemit.com/steemitsandwichcontest/@loveself/steemit-sandwich-contest-week-38-mushroom-veganwich

This is what @homecook our guest judge selecting 3rd prize for week 38 had to say:

  1. Ok, I have to admit that this is one of my favourite combos I've seen so far in SSC! Korean fried chicken style mushrooms, slaw, spicy chilli sauce all stuffed in a steamed bun???? R u kidding me?!? Now that's one tasty looking sandwich! @loveself, you should be very proud of your creation!!!

Featured Entries: (I will for the most part only be featuring the "Outstanding Achievement" winning entries in this section)

@tesscooks4u - @homecook said: I've been kinda leaning towards the veggie options, since i've been to so many bbq this week, I can't even look at meat for a while! @tesscooks4u: This is an outstanding example of a perfect veggie burger! Chick peas give it body, well seasoned, crispy veggies and of course the all important chillies! This is a sandwich any hard core meat lover would enjoy! Great work @tesscooks4u!

@kopo483 - What a debut to SSC! This new participant busted out with a really great entry. Most notably, his orange juice infused sandwich caught my eye and upon a deeper review I found that this self proclaimed "average cooking joe" might actually have more skillz than he leads on. Extensive prep, great presentation & a multitude of interesting ingredient combos, this participant created a monster manwich & an overall great entry for week 38!

@birdsinparadise - Crazy good entry with excellent prep and pres. Filled with both an abundance of meat & veggies this Smoked pulled chicken sandwich really caught my eye. Plus why not add in some roasted pineapple! Also fts. a number of other interesting ingredients such as coconut sugar and various spices. The Smokin' attitude was apparent in this one!

@mondoshawan - I also wanted to ft. this entry for a couple of reasons. the first....I Love this sloppy egg yolk sandwich :)
Kamut Bread was a nice change from "regular" bread and the additive seaweed ingredient really appealed. Sometimes a simple sandwich has more going on underneath the bread than you'd think. Such was the case with this hidden gem. Looked like an excellent way to start the day IMO! I also really like the coriander top off, which helped distinguish this entry!

SELECTING WINNERS!

  1. @jaybird: I select the winners based on a variety of parameters. Just do your thing and have fun with it. I'm considering many factors such as presentation, ingredients & originality, creativity, community opinion & artistic ability just to name a few. PLEASE make sure to follow the rules! They are easy to follow and help prevent the tragedy of Null entries!

  2. There are now 3 prizes. First Prize = roughly 50% of the prize pool

  3. Second Prize dubbed the "Veto Vote" = roughly 30% of the prize pool + the honour of selecting the following weeks second prize winner. This prize is ideally given to an entry that although it did not win the contest, showed distinction among all the other entries. This could be a feature such as it was the community favourite, it used the most bizarre ingredients, or, it was just the best looking sandwich etc. IMPORTANT! The "Veto Vote" holder may not vote on his or her own sandwich to be selected as the second prize. However, they are still eligible to win First Prize should they enter the contest that week.

  4. Third Prize will be roughly 15% of the prize pool

  5. Roughly 5% of the pool goes towards the "Outstanding Achievement Awards"

Week 38's Veto Vote holder is: @alanthoughs and was selected by @intrepidsurfer who was week 37's Veto Vote holder. Thank you both for your participation!

  • IMPORTANT! "Veto Vote" holders must always present their final selection to @jaybird in confidence and allow the news to be revealed in an officially "Who Won Steemit Sandwich Contest" blog post. Deviation from this method will result in a forfeit of the Veto Vote and thus, the selection will be consider null and a new winner will be chosen by @jaybird.

  • Veto Voters can contact @jaybird through or Steemit.chat username: jaybird or discord jaybird#4732 . If for whatever reasons, the Veto Vote winner does not select an entry in the following weeks contest, I will be the default second prize selector for that week.

@jaybird reserves the right to alter the contest rules and structure as necessary.
