I took this photo at the beach on the beautiful Thai island called Koh Chang. I'm not sure that 1 second counts as a long exposure, but the effect is certainly in the same category. I think the image shows well how fast this guy was spinning around and playing with fire!

The Milky Way
I posted this to #photography just recently. Just my luck that a few days later there's a long exposure photography challenge! Luckily I had a chat with @jamtaylor and he was happy to let me enter it into the competition.
I took this photo in the South of France in the Dordogne region. Having always lived in large cities, I was really surprised by the number of stars I could see. Then I noticed The Milky Way.

I used GIMP to adjust the white balance and levels to try and reduce the light pollution and bring out the colours of the stars.
Very cool shots. My favourite is the milky way. It looks amazing.
Thanks. I'm really proud of it as well. I spent about an hour trying to get the settings and composition right. Out of the thirty or so shots I took, only two turned out decent.
I spent another hour post-processing. I was learning as I went along. Turns out I could (should) have used a slower (10 second) exposure time and created a composite (apparently this is better for the type of sensor in the camera). What they hey - it was an ad-hoc photoshoot :D
Wow, both are incredible. I think the fire spinner is my fave though, good job on that, I've always found those guys crazy hard to photograph.
Thanks. I think it turned out nice as well, especially as I didn't have a tripod. I think with a tripod you'd probably get a slightly clearer image for the parts that don't move (e.g. sand). Still, the ghostiness of the man is cool! :D
