SteemitMamas Writealong 4th Challenge/Day 7: Write about a Witness I Support

in #steemitmamas7 years ago (edited)

Okay I have been slacking behind on the @steemitmamas writealong because I was taking some time off the platform to reprioritize. Also, because this challenge was really a challenge to me as I have not the slightest idea how to package this post about witness. (I have another shy problem of tagging people that are dolphins or whales on Steemit whom I may feel I have bothered.)

Being on Steemit for 8 months, I kind of know what witnesses are and what they do and yet I don't know it all. One thing I do know is.....

It's important to vote for them!

Each of us are given 30 votes to vote for some people who run as witnesses on this platform. It is an extra thing for them to do, simply because they want to ensure the ecosystem of this platform keeps going. When I first knew of people doing this, I actually applaud their noble hearts because they look out for us, strangers by right. They actually fight for something they believe in and doing that in faith before they see the whole picture of what it can become, like Walt Disney, seeing the vision of Disneyland before it even exists.

So, I know quite a handful of witnesses. I guess my post will end up not being about ONE witness but a few.

@bitrocker2020

@bitrocker2020 is like the big brother of #teammalaysia who is a very friendly person and goes all out to promote steem. He is known as the ambassador for Steemit in Malaysia. So much so that I know a friend from another church who isn't on Steemit yet but sat in his talk and could come and tell me about him. Thank you @bitrocker2020 for really going the extra miles.

@kevinwong

Before @kevinwong joined the witness category, @bitrocker2020 was the only person running for witness in my country, Malaysia. I heard from my husband @danielwong that he has been sustaining a certain ecosystem for us with the nodes (sorry I can't elaborate much on this due to my lack of knowledge). As the team grows and the users grow too, maybe two witnesses would be more 'sufficient'( forgive my lack of words). I actually stumbled across @kevinwong's post some time ago when he decided to run for witness and I told @danielwong about his Freedom is Here! 👍. Before becoming a witness, @kevinwong has been a great support to teammalaysia. I was reading his post, Running for Witness: Embracing the Crypto Life™. Okay, I have to be honest that I don't understand all the technical terms and some language he was talking about, but I could understand this at least and know why I should vote for him:

All support for my witness will be prioritised towards securing reliable nodes. Any bonuses will be going to building the Crypto Life™, which for me can be characterised through the spirit of both Steem Power and Tauchain's Agoras. Will continue spending the time to create content, invest well, and try to take the platform to a better position. If whatever I've been talking about here seems okay, please consider voting for my witness account and share this post. Thank you.

So, do check him out and vote him as a witness if you still have votes left.

@good-karma

I have been seeing @good-karma voting some of my friends' posts before I followed him. He is the developer of e-steem which I have been using quite a lot recently. It is so easy for me to use and it is created really to our convenience. I am thankful that @good-karma strives to improve our Steemit experience. Sometimes, when Steemit is down, esteem is still running. Besides that, he is very supportive towards esteem users and he sets up a panel of curators who curate our contents. Their curation trail would upvote us if plagiarism is not present. Thank you!

@surpassinggoogle

I came across many people praising and thanking @surpassinggoggle and many would set a footer stuff their posts to urge us to vote for him as a witness. Due to some curiosity, I started following him and saw how much he does to promote Steem and Steemit. He is a really tall guy, named Terry who is very loved by this community. He started the whole thing about #ulog where he encourages us to write about ourselves and let us be the celebrities. Surprisingly, he does read and I always see him wherever there is trouble. He is also a very generous guy.

Besides four of them above, there are still many other witnesses out there who really care about the betterment of this platform like @curie, @thekitchenfairy who is also among the @steemitmamas, @qurator who is one of the biggest supporters of users on this platform and @ocd, one of the greatest encouragers when I first came on to this platform. As Steemit is built on a decentralized blockchain, the block builders are really very very important. The least we can do, is to vote for them. I realize many of them cover a certain regions by geographical locations so they can promote Steemit at where they are. Thank you, witnesses, all of your works are appreciated!

In order to understand better about what witnesses do, I searched up posts on Steemit explaining about the witness category. I found this post by @williambanks explaining it to the laymen terms (at least for me):

Witnesses are guardians of the blockchain!
Witnesses are responsible for finding blocks, seeding the blockchain and setting pricing feeds and interest rates. They are for the most part silent and you never really hear much about them. But they represent a major investment in the steem economy in terms of money and manpower.

With steem, the witnesses take turns finding blocks. But your priority as a witness is determined by how many votes as witness you get and the relative stake power behind those votes.

You as an end user can vote for up to 30 witnesses and you can change your witness vote at any time for any reason. Voting for a witness is a way of saying "I support your work. I like what you're doing and I want you to continue doing it."
Conversely, removing your vote from a witness is a good way to let them know that you no longer agree with them or their policies.

Wow, so they are like the Guardians of the Galaxy or the Avengers who look out for this planet called Steem. We are like the citizens who are sometimes oblivious but still enjoying our easily rewarding system here. We only know it when aliens appear before our eyes without knowing some of the witnesses have been working hard to guard this ecosystem. Or they are the master builders since they find blocks to build like in the Lego Movie!!!?

I use govt parliamentary and you use Marvel Movies 🎥... 😀😀... that’s a good one.

I too was stumped with this one.
So I went with the ones who are approachable and who have interacted with me one way or another
And thanks to you, I know a few more a little more than a handle 😊

It was a little bit of a stretch but the mamas did great!

Nicely put together @happycrazycon. Without the witnesses supporting behind the scenes we wouldn't be able to do what we enjoy.

Great job on this post! Very thorough and helpful :)

I agree! We should make use of our 30 votes and dont let it go to waste. The witnesses are equally important in Steemit, they help keep the balance and order in tje community.

It is important to vote those whom you think will make an impact and always aiming for innovation.

Cheers!

I will end up write alot of them because 30 votes for me also not enough. Lol. I wish there are 50 votes. Haha. Nice one on witness that you have written.
