WORDS Have POWER: SLANDER is Deadly
While gossip can, under certain circumstances become deadly, all slander is deadly.
Slander is defined as:
the utterance of false charges or misrepresentations which defame and damage another's reputation.
Not just words. Not mere gossip, slander is intentionally hurtful talk. It purposely seeks to put someone in a bad light.
How completely opposite to the spirit of love and peace! Such talk is meant to harm another person, separate friends, cause divisions.
Hurtful slanderous talk is like a two-edged blade. It cuts both ways. It is easy enough to perceive how it plays havoc with the life of the one who is its target -- arousing anger, resentment, even desperation.
But what about the slanderer?
It is a serious matter and is penalized in the Philippines under the Revised Penal Code.
Serious slander is punishable by imprisonment of arresto mayor in its maximum period to prision correccional in its minimum period or 4 months and 1 day to 2 years and 4 months while simple slander is punishable by arresto menor or 1 day to 1 month or a fine not exceeding P200.
Let not that one be deceived, for the wisdom from above warns:
the lips of the stupid one are his. The first words out his mouth are foolishness, and his last words are disastrous madness. -- Book of Ecclesiastes 10:12, 13
It will lead him to calamity.
The way of the hurtful gossiper/slanderer leads to a dead end.
It can lead him to death.
Truly, words have power. Use it wisely.
