Biodiversity Conservation is one of my passions
For over 8 years, i have been a crusader for environmental protection and biodiversity conservation is one of my main focus. I will soar to protect biodiversity because biodiversity is life.
I have been working with these wonderful people (@laurakiss @thanianshiri, Christopher, Immaculate, Louis, and many more who are not in this picture), to protect the Abongphen Highlands Forests in Kedjom-Keku. I guess the guy with the camera is @martin.mikes, a force to reckon with in the conservation of afromontane forests of the Bamenda Highlands of the North West Region of Cameroon. @martin.mikes is a dedicated and passionate conservationist and he is the founder of @kedjom-keku and @treeplanter.
On this we set-out to do a biodiversity assessment of an 800 hectares area (Mendongbhou) which we strive to transform into Kedjom-Keku Community Forest but on our way to Medongbhou, i was saddened by the alarming rate of deforestation.
This was very disheartening. Deforestation for pasture and agriculture is a major issue around the world.
Every time i come across this, I ask myself why humans have become soo wicked and are putting down acres of trees with brutal machines and fire? Can't trees and animals peacefully co-exist?
Can't we sustainably farm in forests and as well as sustainably graze in forests?
Trees are the lungs of the land. They purify the air and water, provide us with food, medicine, timber and lots more. The ecoystem services trees and forests provide are worth billions: Why destroy that which gives us life?
Why? Why? Why?
Greed!
I think man has become too greedy in such a way that has has put profit over people and greed over need. Greed is the reason why we are plunging this planet to destruction. However, i just want to let all the greedy folks out there that we have just one planet and killing it is killing ourselves and if we heal it, we heal and protect life for posterity.
