How to Teach children to Manage Their Time

The ability to manage time should be taught from an early age. The bigger, the more free the children use the time. Some are using it well, some are not. Ideally, children can manage the most of their time. Unfortunately, in school children are not taught to manage time. Well, it is the duty of the parents to teach it.

Here are four tips for teaching children the importance of time management:

  1. Distinguish between important and urgent
Help your child differentiate between important and urgent things. The important thing is the precious thing for the child's life. Meanwhile, the urgency is the thing that requires fast action. Of course what is most important and most urgent for everyone is different. Encourage Children to be able to sort out the most important and most urgent first.

  2. Create a time table
Create a time table for your child with several categories, such as family, school, sports, and friends. For school, you can create columns for homework or learning for test. You can also create other subcategories according to your child's needs. The time table helps your child to find out the completed work or not, so time management is organized.

  3. Exercise
Train your child using time tables. Invite them to make decisions about how to use the most of their time. Give him a priority scale to do first, second, and third. For example, if he wants to go to a friend's house, but also must learn for midterm test. If you want to study in the afternoon, he may be able to stay at his friend's house until dinner. Can also, encourage him to study the group with his friends.

  4. Check
You need to check the time table for the child to see how the child takes advantage of the time. If anything is missed, invite the child to talk. Ask why it can and what is holding it back. If necessary, take time every night to help him choose five or six priorities the next day.

  5. Be a role model of your children
As a parent, it is important for you to be role models for children. If you can use the time with discipline, automatically the child will imitate you. Take advantage of this as a direct instruction to the child.

This is something that I have never put a lot of thought into as a parent but you make a great point. Many adults that I know struggle due to poor time management. Not doing the things that "need" to be done before things that they just "want" to be done.
I am going to have to try and put some of these into action.
