What is Powering Up and How Do You Do It?

Powering up means gaining more Steem Power.

This tutorial should help you understand what I am talking about.

In the sample wallet above, you can see 0.246 STEEM, 260.232 STEEM POWER, and 10.264 STEEM DOLLARS.

Steem is the trade-able token that this block chain is built upon. It is a liquid and easily trade-able asset.

Steem Power is also steem, but it is steem that is vested on the steemit platform. Steem Power is NOT easily trade-able. Once you have invested in Steem Power, you must do something called a "Power Down" (explained later) in order to turn your Steem Power into Steem.

Steem Dollars are the Internal Currency of steemit. They are designed to be worth about $1.00 USD. In the last 6 months I have seen SBD consistently be worth MORE than $1.00 USD.

How Can I Earn More Steem Power

One way to earn more Steem Power is by writing posts and/or comments on the steemit platform. Once your comment or upvote reaches payout status, you will receive Steem Power and SBD. You will see your rewards in your wallet and by collecting your rewards your Steem Power goes higher, depending on how much your post was worth at payout.

Another way, is to be a curator on Steemit. One becomes a curator by upvoting posts and comments. When you upvote something, you are investing as a curator. At payout, some of the rewards of the post get divided amongst the curators. These rewards are also paid in Steem Power.

The last way to have more Steem Power is to Power Up. You do this by converting Steem into Steem Power.

Please note that just like is states in the picture above. It will take 13 payments in order to get your STEEM POWER into liquid/Usable STEEM. You can POWER UP by converting 1000 STEEM into STEEM POWER in just one transaction. But it will take 13 transactions to take your money back out

How Can I Obtain Steem so that I can Power Up?

One way to get Steem on your hands is to purchase it. You can purchase it using fiat through an exchange. Or you can use SBD that you have earned to buy steem.

Finding the "best" way to turn SBD into Steem is what turns you from blogger to investor

I prefer to use the internal market.

IMG_8317.jpeg

In the picture above you can see that right now, in the market, for every 1.578 SBD you get 1 Steem.

I prefer not to buy Steem at this price. I have seen the ratios be much better. This means that I can remember the times when ONE SBD could buy you 3.5 STEEM. I don't know if we will reach such ratios again, but Im willing to wait a little longer to find out.

One thing I like to keep in mind when HODLing my SBD for better steem rations is that the SBD was designed to be worth $1.00 USD. I think this is important to be aware that the SBD is designed to be worth less than what it is currently worth.

What are the benefits of powering up?

When you power up, you have more steem vested in the steemit platform. This action makes steem worth more as it makes less steem available in the market. This is good for everybody who invests in steem.

This also makes you have more power on the platform.

The higher your Steem Power, the more your upvote is worth. The more your upvote is worth, the more control you have over steemit rewards.

How do I turn my Steem Power back into Spend-Able Steem

Much like there is a power up process. There is a "power down" process.

This pictures above show the screens for powering down. I have not powered down yet, and hope not to as my goal is to have 5000SP.

This tutorial was created from a conversation that I had on SteemitMamas on Discord. Some of our mamas are still figuring out the system, others of us have more of a handle on it. All of us are working together to become better moms, steemians, and all around people.

We would love for you to join us. Click on the banner below to visit us on discord.

Good tutorial. I guess all of that steem steemit steempower steemdollar is not very helpful for new users. If Facebook ever happen to have some own coins or tokens, there will be only ONE Facebook dollar, that any idiot just can understand how to use, lol. We re on te nerd side of the network, at least. :D

So what about a tutorial for using bots? There are many things I still don't get, for example if this bought upvotes are only on one post or more of them? There are so many different bots and whales and scammers, some say it's the only way to get a voice here, others claim it is destroying the idea of quality posts finding their way to the trending page... Look at my page... I don't know if my memes are funny just for me or if I just don't reach the people liking them?

I took a look. Some of your stuff is funny.

Have you tried using upvoting services? You have enough SBD to pay for them.

Check out @thundercurator, you send him $0.12 SBD and a few days later he upvotes your post with a 300% profit. It won’t make you rich - but it will give your posts bigger than 0.0 payouts.

I have used bots and I’m stopping for now so that I can gauge wether “they worked” or not. It feels like they worked, most SBD invested should make it back in my wallet and my SteemPower grew. But now I’m going to stop and see how my growth goes without them.

Maybe in a few weeks I’ll have enough info to write a tutorial on that.

Thanks for stopping by. I appreciate your comment.

Thank you, somebody telling me some of my stuff is funny just made my day. :D
I tried send the 0.12 SBD, gonna see what happens. I m really looking forward to your tutorial on voting/bots.... thanks a lot. Btw, drop by from time to time :)

Great tutorial.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. I appreciate you taking the time to check out my posts.

Thank you @metzli!! This is awesome, I've also read the previous post you've written on the VP, they are so helpful for noobs like me lol!

Resteemed

Thanks much for the tutorial

You’re welcome - have a great weekend.

I'm not exchanging SBD into Steem lately, as the rate is not very good.
By the way, can you make a post about the app? I want to power up from the steem app, how do I do it?
Thank you for your helpful tips!

I don't use the steem app. I only use the browser from my phone.

Ive been holding my SBD too instead of converting them. I've also started funneling small bits into other wallets.
