How Children Benefit From Art in Their School Lessons

Art can be beneficial for both adults and children to channel their creativity and even lose themselves for a little while in the act. For example, even the colouring of a picture has been proven therapeutic (and potentially highly addictive) for all ages.

It can be used as a learning aid in many subjects at school to help make the subjects come alive, as it makes it easier for the child to absorb the information being taught. It can be pretty much part of any lesson, English, STEM, multicultural, history, drama or just art, for art sake.

Also art is particularly a useful medium to explore culture and history because different forms and styles of art differ from country to country and century to century (even decade to decade and year to year). Introducing it early on at school makes art become more of a pleasure than a chore.

Drawing and art can become an outlet for both an outpouring of emotions, as it gives children the ability to empty their minds of their worries onto paper and gettting out emotions like this is a good lesson to apply throughout life.

Art also helps children obtain a sense of achievement by creating something beautiful. Creating something beautiful also means appreciating something beautiful and in a lot of cases, this will be inspired by nature.

One quite difficult thing to do, as a parent and teacher, is to resist the urge to step in and correct a child in how they are completing their art piece. Sometimes this may be necessary, but for the most part, especially in the early years it is best just to let them do their own thing so that they can express their creativity freely and develop as they want to. Guidance can be given, but don't expect it always to be listened to.

It is good to vary the types of art projects that are offered, as the more that are offered the more chance that each child will find out what artform they feel most creative and happy with, or even want to develop further. Different artforms require different skill sets.

Some might see poetry as type of art and this might appeal to one child; another might like the idea of upcycling and thinking of new things to make with other stuff people might want throw away; and a third might like to create buildings from lego.

With art, there is a world of possibilities out there, just waiting to be discovered and the key is to make it fun. Being able to express creativity is a positive attribute that can be learned early in life and carry on helping us through our adult lives too.

let some children show little inclination towards fine arts by showing their emotions through the drawing

Very good!!! This a good basis for the children... They can release their emotion by the paint or drawing and use their imagination to create.
