NSL! Politeness week day 6!
Hi Steemit!
Politeness week is almost at its end :) Today a little bit of positivity. [PL message below]
Being polite is also seeing the world in a more optimistic way.
It's psychological and even if we criticize, the message we send is much less direct!

I'm disappointed!
You look horrible in this dress!
You are so lazy!
All of these are very negative. What's the strategy? Change the negative adjective (e.g. disappointed, horrible, lazy) to a positive adjective with not:
I'm not very / entirely happy with this.
You do not look very attractive in this dress, to be honest.
You are not very hard-working, I'm afraid.
All of this is basically psychological: even though you include the negative word (not), the adjective you use after is positive! (happy, attractive, hard-working) -> Your message changes, it's no longer so negative!
Another strategy (a very British one) is to soften the blow, make something seem less negative. To many non-British people such sentences seem strange and unnatural. Trust me! It's natural for them!
Look at the picture above and the sentences below:
Worst movie ever! vs Well, This wasn't the best movie I've ever seen...
Disgusting dinner! vs. It wasn't the tastiest meal I've ever had...
What ugly shoes! vs. They're not the prettiest shoes I've ever had
Notice the grammar!
We use a superlative adjective (the best, the tastiest, the prettiest) and Present Perfect: (I've seen, I've had => have +V3)
So how do you feel about this post? Be honest! or at least polite about it ;)

Bycie za mało uprzejmym jest jednym z naszych problemów za granicą. Przez brytyjczyków jesteśmy postrzegani często jako chamscy i niewychowani. Wiąże się to z tym, że jesteśmy często zbyt bezpośredni, negatywni, lub po prostu uzywamy za mało "please" i "thank you".. Pora to zmienić :)

STOPCo jest złego w stwierdzeniu jestem rozczarowany/zawiedziony tym filmem? To specyficzne uczucie, którego nie da się zamienić innymi słowami. Nie popadajmy ze skrajności w skrajność :)
To zamien film na "Tobą", i wyobraz sobie ze musisz to powiedziec podwladnemu. :) dalej bys tak powiedzial? :)
Ale możesz powiedzieć, że jesteś rozczarowana czyjąś pracą. Poza tym my tu mówimy o rozmowach towarzyskich, nie pracowniczych.
Taki jest już języka angielski i ich kultura. Kiedyś kiedy anglik pytał mnie, jak leci... a ja miałem zły dzień, to mówiłem szczerze, że średnio. Zawsze widziałem zmieszanie tych osób - początkowo nie wiedziałem dlaczego.
Teraz wiem, że trzeba po prostu powiedzieć, "I'm fine".
Według mnie zwłaszcza amerykanie mają inne podejście do wielu rzeczy. Świetnie to ilustruje ten fragment z Lindą:
@noisy oj tak wtedy im się coding sypie i nie wiedzą co powiedzieć, bo przecież powinno się powiedzieć fine :P @lukmarcus ja mówię o kązdej sytuacji. Napisałam zresztą, że ze znajomymi to w ogóle można szczerze mówić crap i inne, ale chodzi o uprzejmość w ogóle no i z pracownikiem, w anglojezycznych krajach nikt nikomu wprot nie powie "I'm disappoointed with your work" :P
