in #steemiteducation7 years ago (edited)

Hi Steemians!

[PL] Post edukacyjny komentarz na dole.

Time for idiom week day 4. If you haven't check out idiom week day 3, day 2 and day 1!

So far we had three cat idioms. Now, a different animal.

Let's look at the picture first:

11

This phrase you can often hear in movies or TV series especially when a problem needs to be addressed and few people want to talk about it.

We need to address the elephant in the room: why do you always smell like alcohol after a party? - says a mother of a 15-year-old child
The elephant in the room among Mary and Joe is, who will pay the bills this month.

I remember in one TV series (it might have been Friends, I don't remember :( )  the character said:

We need to address the elephant in the room, why is there an elephant in the room?

Do you get the joke? :)

One of the possible origins of this idioms is that it came from a fable entitled "the inquisitive man" - where a man goes to a museum, notices all the tiny details of different objects, but fails to notice a big elephant...

Stay tuned for day 5! And remember to upvote and follow me @cwbrooch :)

[PL] Ciężko mi przypomnieć sobie idiom, który by pasował tutaj... Chodzi o to by omówić sprawę dla wszystkich oczywistą, ale o której nikt nie chce mówić. Mamy coś podobnego?

I am a teacher and know how interesting it is to teach idioms in the class. I work in Dubai as ESL Teacher and have recently written a post about the process of getting teaching jobs in Dubai.. Link is given below read please

Czy to nie jest czasem "tajemnica poliszynela"?

myślałam o tym ale nie jest to coś co użyjemy w zdaniu takim mzwyklym... bo popraw mnie jeśli się mylę, ale tajemnica poliszynela raczej tyczy sie jakoś wiadomości, nie? niekoniecznie problemu wśród zwykłych ludzi, którzy nie chcą o czymś gadać...

My mother always used to say don't lie to me I have a memory like a elephant

Ha! We have the same one in Polish :)

Nabrać wody w usta :)

Ale to o problie o ktorym wsYscy wiedza?

też - przecież nie nabiera się wody w usta w przypadku gdy problem jest nieznany bo nie ma powodu go ukrywać, chyba lepszego tłumaczenia się nie znajdzie :)

no tak ale idea tego idiomu jest by właśnie "wypluć wodę z ust" i porozmawiać o problemie
