First off, Merry Christmas to all! Scratch that, happy holidays - let's be politically correct ;)

Today, another tribute to cats. AS I said I have two furballs at home (and used to have another one with my parents) which means I should have three cat idioms in total!

Well, this is idiom number 2:

This idiom can function on its own, meaning, you do not need to add anything more to the statement. It should be self-explanatory :)

If you want someone to respond to you and they are silent, this is what you could say: 

Kasia: How do I look in this dress?
Partner: ....
Kasia: What's the matter, cat got your tongue?? < I could be slightly annoyed here as well>

What's your opinion on the death penalty?  Don't be shy! Cat got your tongue?

The origin of this idiom is very interesting.  one interpretation is a torture device called "cat o-nine-tails" that pulled your tongue so hard you could not speak for a long time. 

Another interpretation is equally drastic: in Ancient Egypt tongues of liars were cut out and fed to the cats.  

I don't know which is worse  :)
