Quail Farming – A Possible Business Alternative
Hi Steemians, today I would like to share some of my information on how to successfully farm quails. Running a quail livestock business is a good opportunity that offers fantastic benefits.
Through this post, I would like to invite and encourage all of you to learn about this type of farming, but also to remember that a business requires diligence and humbleness from its owners.
Recently, I attended a lecture by a renowned farmer and businessman in our region called Mr. Agro Politan Clinic Bayu. This gentleman has started an integrated farming program and as a first attempt, has started farming quails. When I attended his lecture and training, I made sure I recorded and listened closely to all of the information and suggestions he was giving us and right now, I am preparing my land to do business according to his program.
Here's his technique explained in my own words:
General explanation and strategy
Firstly, you might ask why so much focus is put on quail farming, when cattle or larger livestock could be focused on instead. The answer is that quail farming has the ability to boost the economy quickly and is a healthy alternative to the competitive farming businesses.
For example:
A quail egg takes about 60 days to hatch. If one keeps 300 quails to start, then in 2 years you could potentially produce millions of quails.
Calculation
If you have 300 quails and 70% of them lay eggs successfully with say 10 eggs each (300 x 70% x 10 = 21 eggs) a month, then we can possibly incubate 630 eggs every month.
Let’s say at least 50% of these eggs hatch successfully and produce healthy quails, then we will produce 315 quails. If 50% are male and 50% female, then we have at least 117 females to lay more eggs for the new month.

If one sticks to this calculation diligently and loyally, then in two years, you will potentially produce more than a million quails.
Maintenance Procedures
To keep our quails healthy and thriving, we must build cages that have a clean surface with a litter tray and are also well equipped with a lamp that can be used as a heater. The birds are kept in these cages from the age of one day to 30 days, thereafter they are moved to larger laying cages.
Maintaining the cages and feeding the quails the correct diet is also a very important factor when taking the above calculations into account, the healthier your quails are, the more accurate your calculations will be.
I hope you found this information useful and perhaps it is a potential business and farming strategy for you to consider.
