UNITY IS STRENGTH

 

This is a story about a family who was working very hard. All the children of this family had learnt from their parents, if you work hard you will be rewarded and you will be happy.

All you have to remember is that families must stick together and it is the best gift that we can have.

Some people don’t have a family at all and can become very lonely. That is the reason why we have to stand together and enjoy each other. 

This mother and father had four children that were always arguing about who of them was the best at what they did.

The children's parents, did not like the arguing all the time, as this did not make for a happy family. The parents were getting worried, because their children just could not get along and they were getting very frustrated.  The kids were always fighting and trying to see who was the best at everything.  

We must make a plan to teach our children that being united will mean better strength for them. 

They thought hard about a way to teach them to stand together as one. 

" They will always be like this if we do not teach them to stand together and they will not be happy." 

The father called them all together and said: "Your mother and I are getting worried that you do not know how to stand together."

 “Why should we stand together"  the children asked? 

"Because if something happen to us, we want to know that you will support each other"

The father said: "You must all get 20 pencils that look the same, and put 10 on each side."  

” What can we learn from a pencil”?  the children asked.

 The father said "Now when I say go, you must all break one group of your pencils in half and we will see who is the fastest."

 They were laughing and started breaking the pencils easily. 

It was sort of a fun game and they enjoyed the competition. They all rushed but they did not all finish in the same time but only seconds apart. They felt this made them sort of the same as they were all good at breaking the pencils. 

"That was very easy" they said. " So what did we learn by breaking the pencils, we are all good at this."

 “That is true"  the father said.

" Now I want you to take the other ten in a bundle and break all together in one bundle."

They all took the ten pencils and tried to break them but not one of them could break all ten pencils together.

It is then when the father said"

"See if you keep all the pencils together, it is not easy to break the pencils. If you stand together you are stronger.  

Unity is strength!  

For the first time the children understood what he meant.  

From then on the children stopped arguing, and started helping one another. This was a good lesson for them and they understood what he meant.
