A Princess In The Future (Steemitbloggers contest)

in #steemitbloggers6 years ago (edited)

Looking out the window she longed for a new and exciting life. She wanted to travel to places she's never heard of, to places that she can only see in her dreams.

Her days of late have been spent daydreaming through the cold and hard brick hole in the wall, heavy red velvet curtains barely moving as the wind blows.

The maidens were peeking through the wooden door crack silently laughing, whispering to each other.

"The princess must be dreaming about a prince."
" At her age I doubt she will ever marry. Her fingers will prune before she could even find a proper steed."
"I wager that the only reasons for her struggle is to find someone with mountains of gold."

"The only treasure I seek is the privacy that this castle cannot provide! Now out! Flee!"

The princess was mad. The woman could not even think without being heard.

That night the princess fell asleep by the window. Despite the cold air bringing in a frosty dampness, she stayed wrapped up in the heavy curtain. The more the wind blew the more she fell into a deep sleep.

A dark blue veil covered her surroundings. Sparkles shined the way like fireflies. She walked through the shadows, tree branches scratching at her arms. She looked at one particular sparkle. It wasn't moving like the rest. It had a strange pattern and flowed against what would seem like time. The shining dot also seemed to grow larger. Within seconds it grew astronomical. The light was unbearable, blinding the princess, she had no choice to cover her eyes with her forearm.

A strange but eerie voice spoke out.

"Find the magickey and you will see. Not only will your freedom arise, your curse will no longer have you chastised."

"The magickey? What curse? What a strange dream this is."

She awoke with the crashing sound of thunder. Feeling a bit confused from the happenings of her dream, she scurried to her bed. Lying awake and unable to sleep, the words kept on echoing in her mind.

"Magickey... haha and I suppose that was my fairy godmother. I need to stop dreaming awake so extensively."

The next day was a chilling rainy day. It felt surreal, out of sorts. The princess grabbed her cloak and walked off to a special place of solitary. A cave dwelling hiding at the bottom of the hill was a place of solace for her discovered by her mother, a time long ago when she secretly said her fairwell's. She wonders to this day if she is still alive.

A creek raced through the rocks and as she threw the stones, the sound of them clattering echoed far down into the cave. The echo's sparked an excitement within her. She lifted her dress and ran, following the sounds, the light disappearing behind her the further she went.

She slowed down catching her breath and even though there was little light to show the path she was still able to see. The princess opened her eyes for what seemed like the first time as she saw the different shaped objects around her. Large stones took a square shape with tiny round rocks attached to the sides. Many of them lined in a row.

'How strange', she thought. She ran her hand over the smooth squares as she waked passed them. Little lights appeared.

"Like sparkles that look like fireflies....How is -" She spotted a key. An odd shaped key made of metal. Not like the keys she possessed for the castle doors. No, it was pointier with little things like teeth on one side and smaller.

Without hesitation, the princess grabbed the key. The longer she studied the object the more light became brighter and once more the words echoed in her mind, 'Not only will your freedom arise, your curse will no longer have you chastised'. The key she held turned searing hot and the light was so bright. Barely able to see, she thought maybe she was dreaming once again. Pain struck in her back, then her stomach, then her knees. She fell to the ground as the light blinded her eyes so much that they burned.

Black.

Minutes felt like hours, hours felt like days, days felt like seconds. Loud, busy noises distrupted her sleep. She wanted to open her eyes to see what she was hearing. Being too frail to even take a peek, she lied there waiting, falling back asleep.

"Hey lady! The bench is not for you to sleep on. Make some room."

Quickly moving to sit, confused at where she was, she forced her eyes to squint open. Everything was blurry.

"Had a bit too much to drink last night did you? Well, to give you a heads up it is quarter past noon and it is the perfect time to catch the latest news through the window just in front of us."

"Window?" the princess replied. Forcing her eyes more as the noise got louder. The fog clearing up, the colours that appeared were starting to take form. The man sitting behind her smiled a foul breath smile. His clothing was tattered and torn. 'Has he been rolling in mud with the pigs?' She thought.

Finally looking around, she saw tall buildings. Castles like never before, they looked all the same but very different from hers. Many windows filled the walls... The walls were not even of stone. The princess locked her eyes in front of her. There were many square boxes, at least a dozen, stacked on top of and beside. Inside these boxes had people inside them. Words and people. Tiny people.

She jumped closer to get a proper look. One box had a blue fury creature. It showed the letter 'C' and was written 'cookie'. She tried listening closer as the mouth moved. "Cookiemonster?"

The other black box showed many letters on the top and the bottom. A little person looked to be sitting in between the moving letters. She tried to read but they moved so fast. The words that didn't move was written 'Steemit, bigger and better. Time to HODL' and she heard the words..."What is Steemitbloggers?"

Things were starting to spin. So much movement, so much noise. A screaming sound came from a large strangely shaped object on some really interesting looking wheels made her come to. Her eyes went back to the familiar squares of little people. The one that talked of this steem thing has now changed into a wizard looking man. He had strange hair and eyebrows. "Stay tuned to find out more on 'The Return of the Goblin King'."

Her knees buckled from underneath her. Her head pounding with the strength of thunder. The man on the bench lunged forward, his arm appeared in front of her, carrying another little person box but much much smaller.

"Check out these GIFs! It has got to be the best one. A princess daydreaming on her castles window seal and it's written 'Zombies of today wishing for a better future'. Isn't it great?"

The princess almost fainted when she suddenly realized why the boxes were so familiar. They were the stones from the cave. The smooth large stones.

And the man behind her spoke once more, "Are you ok my lady? Has the magickey not brought you to a place you have never heard of?"

A frozen electrical shock took over her body, only able to turn her head around. The man was gone. A cold sweat covered her body when she felt a stinging sensation in the palm of her hand. Opening her clenched fist, the dark red burn of the key remained.

Love the homage to David Bowie! Hahaha, I was expecting the Cookie Monster reference but the Labyrinth one was a real treat! Well done!

It was a tough one to figure out how to use Cookie Monster. I didn't want to add too many scenarios as it would make a lot of extra reading and I wanted to keep it more personal towards the main character. Not sure if that is what I achieved though lol.

Glad you liked the reference :D I think it's the best part :p

Thank you <3

This is very good. Actually feels like a fairy tale. :-)

Thanks ^_^ And thank you for reading :)

Woah! Mystical era-mixing! I can dig it!

Right on! Glad you enjoyed it ^_^ Thanks for reading ;)

Love this foxy!!! And congratulations on the curie too :) Wow! So awesome...and you totally deserve it :)

Thank you Lynn! I was just reading the other entries to the contest. Have you had the chance? They are just amazing! Far surpassing what I have written. My favorite one is with the Dragon I must say. Will you be participating as well?

I've not had a chance to read them yet @foxyspirit, but they sound great! No, I don't think so; unfortunately, fantasy has never been my thing, but honestly, it's a time factor issue for me this week. Brian had a couple of rough days, so I'm simply playing catch up :)

It's a great group of people though at steemitbloggers, isn't it?! 😂

I hope to soon be able to spend more time in that group. Doing a wedding cake lately so my time is spent mostly on that lately.

It's not a nice thing to read that Brian has had a few rough days. I am sorry that it is what's happening. I say catch up with him more than on here. We all love you and are always happy to see you when you are around. You are a bright sun, but shine on him more than on us :)

awww you're always so sweet to me @foxyspirit, thank you ❤️ The same goes for you and yours!

Good luck with the cake!!

Thanks ^_^ Will write about the cake later hopefully

Wow, it turned out so cool!))

Thank you, Much appreciated!!!! I will definitely have a great day. <3

Ha, our stories went in opposite directions. Mine went from current day back to the fairy tale. How cool! Great minds think alike :) Assuming that she actually started int eh fairy tale and it wasn't just some odd dream. Now that I think about it more, I'm not so sure!

VERY cool visualization you've got going on here. Intense cliffhanger ending, too!

The story is in the eye of the beholder (reader in this case) ;)

Great minds for sure :D About to head to your story shortly. Awesome that you like the ending. I was trying to go for something strong, that's hard to do. I found it hard as well to express the images I had in my mind. I am very thankful for pixabay to help with that.

Very injoyable! Thank you for taking me through this journey @foxyspirit <333 I'm feeling it :) #steemitbloggers
