'How I got (this person) to join Steemit' - why these kinds of posts will always trend…

in #steemit8 years ago (edited)

There are three ways to create value on Steemit…

  1. Create content that gets upvoted
  2. Curate content that goes on to be upvoted
  3. Benefit from the increase in Market Cap value

Steemit isn't really a social network, It's a future virtual economic society.

I'll break it down properly in another post but the seeds of the idea sprouted here…

...for now just think about these three methods to offer value in your head.

If you're a large Steem power 'shareholder' then it's in your best interests to increase the size of the pie… the market cap of Steemit.

Sure you can make lots of money curating, but your real payday comes when the masses adopt Steemit and the market grows to accommodate this. If we look at the market cap of Steemit on the 4th of July compared to now we can see a 1500%+ increase.

There is absolutely zero chance that a large Steem Power holder could have made that return entirely by curation over the same timeframe.

So what's with the title of this post?

Anything that increases adoption on a massive scale will increase the value of the Steem platform and ultimately the value of Steem Power and... the stake that the largest holders own.

A good friend of mine from university, Alla, has been pushing up on Youtube the last couple of years with her cooking videos, she currently has 45k subscribers and some videos that have hit millions of views. I talked to her about Steemit a couple weeks ago and sent her my super analytical, nerdy articles and told her how I'd done. She said she'd look into it and it was interesting.

I didn't hear anything back, by that point @guerrint had released her makeup video, I told my friend about it and all of a sudden she was highly invested into finding out what was going on. It lowered the barrier for her and she saw where she could add value.

She creates quality content, YouTube pay her peanuts…. She has subscribers and can offer value and growth to Steemit. Without a doubt I think that if she were to join here she would be one of the top trending articles of the day.

In fact I told her to make a Steemit cake, something to do with the logo. It would act as a verification post and also show the community she was invested and passionate about the platform.

Which is what brings me to what I think will be a surge in new posts and value creation for Steemit.

If you can convince (this person) to join steemit, not only will you get a whole bunch of whale up votes for it, you'll also be increasing the size of the pie for the Steem Power shareholders. Those two aspects go hand in hand.

So, right now.. Really drill down into who you can convince to join the platform, to not only bring their quality content but also their followers. I can almost guarantee that you will be rewarded for it, it just makes sense to be.

….How I convinced Oxfam to join Steemit...

...How I convinced Warren Buffet to Join Steemit…

The list goes on….

Keep increasing the size of the pie and you will be rewarded...

Mass adoption!

Sort:

Good post @wingz. There will be massive value to onboarding a (social network neutral) corporation or a famous face on Steemit. One tweet from Oxfam reaches comfortably over 1m potential users. And, we could raise money and make a difference on upvoting their articles. Let's work on this...

Thanks, I was inspired by one of your posts about charity recently. I think there's lots of potential for mass adoption if we can all work together to get these people in. With the result being a much bigger tastier pie! :)

Best way is to come up with yet another way this platform can be used in a positive manner. The other three will follow from that.

That's where we start to delve into Steemit as an economic system... very exciting times ahead.

I'm with ya there.

If Steemit can establish it's self as a quality content network, rather than touting the monetized rewards, the growth will be more sustainable. If people just come for the "streets paved with gold" and don't get any, they are likely to abandon the network. If Steemit can offer a great platform, with some unique great features, and strong user base, whether or not the $ flow from that will matter less.

That will happen in the future once Steemit matures. Right now it's just a big gold rush.

Remember, it wasn't the miners in the gold rush that got rich, it was those selling the tools to the miners that made a fortune...

Guess i am the spade

You are spot on with this article.

People look at you crazy eyed when you tell them they earn rewards just for doing the things they are currently doing. There seems to be a "catch" of some sorts for this to be true. lol

Think about what you would do if you had 45K subscribers. Yeah, like me, I would be posting my video of the day on #steemit and directing my subscribers to the site. Without hesitation knowing what we know. Exciting times indeed!

Thanks for the support already, I'm so excited! Joined today! ;) yay!

Yeah of course, I agree completely. I managed to convince her to join last night. I think not being able to sign up has pushed her to want it more. So she's currently working on a video for when she can join. Hopefully bringing a few of her followers.

FOMO.

It all makes perfect sense for her to come aboard.

I vote your post and I ask please that you see my post https://steemit.com/crowdfunding/@webocel/58kd3g-my-dream-needs-your-vote-crowdfunding with your vote I can put my business and thus have a job and be able to feed my children. With just a few clicks you can change my life.
(voting this comment you are also helping)
sorry for the spam but I'm desperate for funds to be self employed
Thanks in advance. Nicolas

The earning disparity between Steemit and Youtube is astounding, and growing. I'm sure there's tons of Youtubers that would make a killing on here at this particular point in time - the problem is lack of awareness on their part. Thanks for the article.

Once the lightbulb clicks there will be a mad dash for Steemit, im sure of it.

I had read one of your previous posts about how Steemit was a social media site, and how effectively we are the content providers should benefit as apposed to the Facebooks or Ubers of this world.

So to read at the start of this article that "Steemit isn't really a social network, It's a future virtual economic society." Caught me a little off guard.

On that basis i would ask you: do you think that increasing the size of the pie for increasing sake is necessarily a good thing?

Will this not just create a surge in short term interest, followed by a lot of new users having no idea what going on?

Providing a good product will generate interest without the need for recruiting?

I'd be interested in your view on this.

The intention of the first post you read was to get a few of my friends involved that were sitting on the sidelines. In that case I had to relate to them things they already understood, things like facebook and reddit. As I dug a little deeper into Steemit my understanding shifted - https://steemit.com/steemit/@wingz/instead-of-asking-where-the-money-comes-from-ask-why-it-s-even-there-in-the-first-place-digging-deeper-into-the-steem-economic

Increasing the pie for the sake of increasing it I think is the ultimate aim, of course doing it unnaturally will result in problems, these tend to be fixed pretty quickly.

There was one stage where introduce yourself posts became so popular that the entire trending list was filled with them. I really lost faith at that point, the next morning it shifted... 'overnight' haha

The evolution of ideas here is pretty incredible, if you watch for long enough.

I'd be happy to chat about this further on Steemit.Chat if you're interested.
