Is It Just Me, Or Is The Steem Community Nicer Than Other Communities?steemCreated with Sketch.

So here is the thing. Whatever I post, whether it is opinion, photos, stories, the start of a discussion, almost all of my messages are positive or at least respectful. Okay I have seen some fights break out as we make our way through beta, but as this site involves rewards, which is money, heated arguments are bound to happen. But even with that, we still manage to come to a consensus on complicated changes for the system. Even the founder @ned is a cool guy when he comments and @zurvanic and @andrarchy are nothing but class.

For example look at my post about starting to lose weight:

I got nothing but support from people. I don't know these people. They could have easily wrote, "maybe you should get off the computer and stop eating fast ass". But they didn't. I got nothing but nice comments. Shout-out to @natator88, @pitterpatter, @woodendart

I have never been trolled on this site. Just positive and constructive feedback. Even when people make teasing jokes, you can see the good nature behind them. Now this might be because money is involved and people want to be liked as it effects their rewards but still, a pleasant experience regardless :p.

And I'm sure I will get nothing but nice comments. Am I setting myself up for failure. I don't think I am.

Go steem

p.s.

I typed in nice in pixabay to look for photo and one of the things that came up was a woman's backside... oh the internet.

As far as I've seen, the community is indeed a lot nicer. Maybe it's because it's a new site still in beta and everyone wants it to work out. Maybe it's because of the rewards that keep people from pissing everyone off (which will equal no reward). Maybe it's just because the masses haven't found it yet. Maybe the crypto enthousiasts have more ehm... sense and are more respectful towards people in general. Who knows!

Either way it is pretty sweet :). I do think the rewards are a big part of it, it is like when you work costumer service, you have to be nice, it's part of the job. But I also want to optimistic that people are not dbags.

Exactly! I think it's a bit of both. Most people will just be nice either way, but the few that might normally act out under the privacy of the internet might just hold their tongue a bit here :-)

I think it's all of this. The "professional" trolls have still not found it (only the "thruthers" of whatever form that get very angry if you are of a different opinion or even worse proof them wrong).

Rewards make sure that - if you want them - you have to be nice (or the friend of a whale).

And of course this platform needs a bit of work to get in. That's good in the "sense" way but bad because it's excluding an important part of people. Restrictions do the same (like no DMs).

I hope it'll stay this way in the future.

When the masses come... I hope so too :-)

It always depends of all participants. We have to keep the eyes open that it does not change.

I always feel me angushed when I see a reply notification on other platforms :-)

Yeah I know the feeling.

Give it time. The people that think being a jerk is the only way to create a following or make money will be here soon enough.

Just look at Youtube and such platforms that started paying people to produce content. Sure, in the early days (prior to paying) there were jerks but for the most part, everyone was more in line with "hello, I am a new video maker and just like this game." Today, Youtube seems to require you to be a jerk about something to make a decent following. Though even Youtube realizes it may have gone too far and are attempting to reel it in with restrictions on video content for monetized videos.

Most of those people that are jerks on Youtube are migrating over to Vidme or similar services. How long before they realize they can make money embedding their vids here? Probably not long, then it will be like the floodgates open as their crass following shows up too.

The only thing we can do as a community to combat that is to downvote content that is rude, offensive or annoying to each member viewing it. If people like that aren't making money, they won't stick around.

Unlike Youtube, downvotes here have consequences.

I hear you, people like controversy and some guy who is edgy might get a following and it will steamroll from there. But I think if we keep upvoting positive actions it will become the norm.

That is why we need to keep things in check, as a community. If those people that think being jerks are the way to be come around, they won't stay long when they realize they are not making much money.

This is one of the first times that something like this has been tried, that I know of, that also had any amount of success (lasting more than a year, people being able to withdraw, etc).

Steemit is a new paradigm for everyone. Certainly people that are used to making content available for residual rewards. This is the first time the fans have had a direct say in those earnings though. On services like Youtube, no one knows their value to the content creator because your view is worth different amounts based on the advertisers, what they are aiming for, etc. With Steemit, we can see, directly, the impact members have on content.

As long as we all work together to keep the content good and flowing then Steemit will succeed.

Yeah man , it's been awesome here. Other sites it seems to be everyone trying to compete with everyone else , and doing what ever it takes to get views, followers, likes , and whatever else. But here , wow man , from what little time I've been here so far , it's been totally different. It doesn't seem to matter how "big" or "small" you are , people just go about their day posting cool content and comments and best of all people actually take the time to help each other out. How Awesome! is that? :)
