Steemit is a platform on top of a block chain that rewards it's users with various tokens as they publish and perform several activities on the platform.
When you contribute(by posting, commentingor curating) ,you get tokens. With this tokens, you can pass additional rewards to authors you like. This tokens can be traded and changed to bitcoin. They are not just a form of currency just for the platform, they have real value. As complicated as the system might befor the operators, it seems to be working and growing and it users are making money out of it.
I believe with the benefits of steemit most people shave less time for most social media platforms. Believe me with time, steemit will dominate the social media and it will be the no 1 platform that every person will want to be a part of....

The fascinating thing about steemit is that it has presented a new direction for the development of social media landscape in the future. Imagine a world where journalist write articles and get tradeable tokens where they can make a living from it without having to join a bigger publishing platform.
Even in music, same thing can be applied. Imagine something like a distributed sound cloud, where artist can publish and make money out of it. How about a pre-sale of tokens entitling those listening to their songs that has not been been that popular since its release? This would be so awesome as most musicians will prefer this to having deals with record labels.
Same goes to other endeavoured of life like Modelling, Poetry, Art.......etc
Steemit has has given a direction into the future that will be so beautiful and filled with men and women that are enlightened and innovative. If the idea of steemit can be applied in several aspects of life, the offline economy will be decentralized.....
