The Internet taken down (fun video) - Steemit is back!
Internet taken down?
This will happen when the internet is down – hang on – are we attacked – will the US take down the internet and our Steemit?
Steemit hotline
Testing and testing – we are patient right? Let us have some fun – Website is down Video – there is a series on YouTube already – maybe a snapshot of the Steemit.com support hotline room now.
How did you post this post?
Illuminati and Russian submarines are to blame for everything
Edit: I know Uwe is being funny and I appreciate it :) But this comment was neither meant to make people scared nor as a joke.
Steemit still down. DSound frontpage doesn't load properly. DTube has similar issue. ChainBB won't let me post. Busy just started working again.
Looks to me like the interdependence (hopefully not inherent to steem) is still too high between many of these sites. This is a huge weakness in the network.
We really need to consider that these sort of attack/malfunctionings could become ever more common in the future. There has to be a plan of action. Correction: A preplanned, automatic backup.
It's a matter of perspective, for sure. The network is "safe" enough not to break down entirely, from some knowledgable witness noder runners perspective. But will it be safen even from that perspective in the future? At some point this is going to get much worse.
And no matter if people think it's "safe" this way, these types of failures - because they are failures, no matter how we categorize them - alienate anyone who isn't a "beta tester", developer- or investor- user. This downtime is just as much experienced as "censorship" by the end user, as if they were faced with a block and forced to switch between Facebook, Twitter, Gab etc.
When Steem isn't available to the normal social media user, it's simply "not available".
-As if this wasn't enough of an issue. The SMTs could put even more pressure on the system.
Until this point of failure is fully adressed, we are not gonna have an easy time attracting users seeking a "decentralized" network.
Nice discussion guys @por500bolos @the-ego-is-you - seen such instances often on other sites so all should be good for SMTs
Thanks Uwe. Basically, my argument is that we're probably not ready to increase overall use as fast as this could trigger, not because other sites don't break down, but because of the massive competitive preassure from other sites and the inherent promise of a decentralized platform that many users see with Steem. Imo we're not ready for mass adoption or anything like it just yet.
I'm not saying SMTs are bad or that Steem/Steemit is. But I think that we'll have to work out some solutions for these things or they could quickly ruin reputation. Not even Steem can survive anything.
Hey @the-ego-is-you. There is no need to wear your tin foil hat yet nor going too conspiracy theory so quickly mate.
Haha, I've been connected to www.steemit.com all along this midnight thru its Twin Sibling without any issues. }:)
No tinfoil or propaganda here. I hope noone thought I was being angry, because I'm not. But I am serious. These sites all went down for me. What message does that send?
As someone who would like Steem to be what it was and so much more (I've put my time and effort where my mouth is), I'm saying that a widespread ignoring of this issue would be a grave mistake.
The sibling is great, but it isn't Steemit and didn't help any of the other sites when they went down either.
Yes of course! I totally agree with that bit I quoted above mate. And a lack of diligent, credible, responsible and specific announcements from the executives in charge of the matter makes it even worse. ¿Doesn't it?
But, what if I tell you that that Twin Sibling is equally as Official & Legit as your already well known and beloved www.steemit.com website?
¿Would you think that this Fabric in that brand new pre-announced Steem Blockchain Fabric got frayed way too much in the wrong hands? }:)
It's good enough for "me" personally, but it still uses a different and largely unknown adress.
My point is that if most Steem social media apps (that I use at least) went down, that means some of that "decentralized" touch that we are supposed to enjoy here is being lost.
I unfortunately do not myself understand the technical details well enough to make direct and highly technical suggestions on them. That's not what I'm trying to do here though.
I'm merely suggesting that if most apps go down, a lot of the "decentralization" which could be taking place on an app level especially and maybe on a RPC node level, is starting to look like it's currently very shallow.
I'm not even gonna bring up all the other theoretical problems I see around the corner right now (reg identities, spam etc), but as someone who really really want Steem to succeed and have been very forgiving of the mistakes I've seen in the past, I think I have to say something in order to keep some kind of integrity. I won't make posts just to moan about it all day though. I'm not here for the drama and I'll survive no matter what happens to the project.
Yes! that's was needed. Then, there is nothing to worry about my friend. I understand you and I understood you very well from the beginning. About what were your goals and concerns about this situation. And what you were trying to achieve. :)
So, I'm indeed glad you took the time to at least READ my comments and embedded links I shared here with you. And certainly, I am also grateful that you even replied to them with an honest opinion and explanation.
This was only, that I could not avoid exercising my usual hobby of always trying to get people to really read stuff and gain with it greater enlightenment and awareness about the things that happen around them.
Cheers!! :)
what a crazy day yesterday it was not seeing steemit for the whole day is like not having oxygen hahah
