Can Steemit fix the social media filter bubble?

Filter bubbles is an interesting social media phenomenon that we have seen research about for a while now, and many have been investigating how we can deal with it.

So what is a filter bubble?

What´s in your filter bubble depends on who you are, what you do, who you´re friends with, what you upvote/like, which movies you have been watching lately, etc. And the phenomenon is not only seen on social media-platforms. Google gives me a set of links based on a search word, different to your set of links even if we use the same search word. Whereas someone might see a news article about «Brexit» when they search for Great Britain, others might see a «Top 10 tourist spots in London»

The trend has been sweeping the web for a while now, and news websites, Yahoo, Netflix, Twitter, Instagram and many many more have implemented different kinds of personalization, or have flirted with the idea of personalization.

I for one think that it´s good to get different opinions on almost every aspects of life, whether it be cultural, political, movies, books, economical or more general opinions. And I´m afraid that if we keep on the path of personalization everywhere, we move towards a world where the web shows us, what it thinks we want to see, but not what we need to see. I´m not against personalization, I really like to get served content that I might like, but I hope we can find a middle ground.
