Steemit Minnows: Easy tips on how to get started.
Hey my steemian friends! I'm getting used to this platform and I'm enjoying it so much!! I've had a bit of success with a few nice payouts and I can definitely admit an addiction - but I positive one 😊 My ongoing goal is now just to write some dope ass content and get more involved within our steemian community.
I have learnt a few things here and there in terms of posting and thought I'd lay down what I've come to discover for you to make it a little easier on the new entry minnows that continue to join 😁
Easy to remember username
I wanted to make a bad-ass-easy-to-remember-username - One that still slightly relates to me specifically but also had an element of mystery and was unconsciously injected into people's brains... @thereceptionist stuck with me and I actually have a slightly funny, slightly insulting story of how my username came to me. Needless to say, I'm still 100% happy with my decision 😁
Welcome guide
I decided to tread carefully and get a feel of everything before diving in. I checked out the blog, wallet, replies, and then I checked out the welcome guide - I think its been updated now and is called Quick Start Guide. Welcome. It was like being greeted at the door by a helpful assistant. To me, this was the staple point as to how I felt about Steemit.
Theres literally a guide for new steemians to come check out, get a clearer understanding of what Steemit is, and how to get started on your Steemit path. Easy bloody peasy. I read through this welcome post which explained so much to me - it literally blew my mind! 💨 Everything started to make sense, although a lot still flew over my head, I was starting to feel a certain way. Perhaps this is where my affair started. (this reference makes total sense if you've read my I'm having an affair with Steemit post 😍) So I dove straight into posting.
Markdown - Posting tips and tricks
When I was making a post (I dont remember if it was my first or second) I had accidently come across bold and italics text when I asterixed a sentence. Wow!! After becoming intrigued by my accidental findings, I wanted to find hopefully a post that had a whole bunch more formatting codes. And I thank you @modeprator for doing exactly that. heres the link to almost everything you need to know about basic Markdown formatting.
Emojis
I havent quite mastered (or memorised) the emoji combos but I love to use the odd smiley face or frustrated face with steam out the nostrils And thanks to @blueorgy for creating this emoji cheat sheet. Its literally as easy as copy and pasting, you can bring your post to life with a few visual emotions.
Free to use Images
Now I see a lot of people stress about image uploading but its also just as easy as copy and pasting too! From the welcome tab I referred to earlier there were a bunch of 'helpful hints', which is where I found the emoji cheat sheet. Another hint I found thanks to @mindover was finding free to use images via google. Simple as!! When I want to use my own pictures, I just message them to myself via facebook messenger but theres probably a better way to do that. Still, easy peasy
Initially, and ongoing too I would assume, I find regular posting is a good habit to get into. For me, I like to use my phone notes to draft my posts throughout the day and when the thoughts have popped into my head. When I'm happy with it, I'll email myself (lol yeah yeah), copy and paste and then touch up the formatting. done!
Almost a month in now
Its almost been a month since I joined now and I've already learned so much - About posting, about cryptocurrencies, about Bitcoin, and about how this platform can easily kickstart investments. I've had a few posts that have done considerably well, in my own opinion, and I've had posts that have flopped. I'm at the stage now where all I want to do is become known within the community, create good laughter-and-thought-invoking content for everyone to enjoy and to be acknowledged.
I just seem to be stuck on those banners though - How do you get those mint banners made, man they're amazing!! 😁

Thanks for the advice! Another good way to gain followers and just have a good time on steemit is to engage. Commenting has gained me 30 followers the last couple of days.
