How many Dolphins and Minnows does it take to equal a Whale?

in #steemit9 years ago

I've been wondering if posts could earn a lot just from sheer popularity with dolphins and minnows.

When browsing the "hot" tab this morning, I came across the following post by @crystaljenn

https://steemit.com/steemit/@crystaljenn/thank-you-steemit-i-will-help-spread-the-word-and-change-lives

and as at the time of writing this post, the stats look like this:

As you can see, a lot of people have voted for it, there are no down-votes, and amongst the voters are several dolphins. But the value of the post is low. It won't earn much till a kind whale comes along and upvotes. And if the whale is busy? Low earnings.

Conclusion: You would need massive popularity to earn from a post without the help of a whale

this is a great post!
but i think it all depends when the votes are coming in.

i just found out about that voting power can be multiplied thousandfold !

Yes - but do you get any curation benefit from your vote? You gave $5.06 to the author, but how much did you get back? Unless you voted before the whales, probably not a lot.

Tea tree, upvoted! Here is my highest post so far. 39 upvotes for about $2. https://steemit.com/steemit/@izzy/why-steem-is-the-real-libertarian-platform
And you guessed it. It is about Steem.
