A Piece of History
For some reason today my phone data turned off for a moment as I refreshed Steemit and it brought up an offline version from some time ago. Before I refreshed again, I had a scroll through what it contained and too some screen grabs. Considering the post I wrote this morning on Steemit frustrations, I figured I would post some here to show a little of my history.
These are from 29 April, 2017 which is coincidentally exactly 3 months after I posted my very first Steemit post. I had around 100 full article posts at this point. So, when people talk about finding it hard to get followers, yeah, I know. 3 months, 100 posts and 109 followers. Oh, and reputation 64.
In there is the highest paid post of 6.69 (which shows the payout figure, total was 9.01). A princely sum to be sure but, here is the list who voted upon it.

So tell me, recognise any of those names?? Yes, some of the biggest whales, witnesses and devs on the platform. Times were different back in the old days weren't they? And, how much was Steem worth at this point? 25 cents.
Seeing this today was a timely reminder of a few things concerning my journey as to how far I have come and, how far I haven't. People look at post rewards today and are downtrodden by their own, jealous of others and disillusioned by the slow speed of change. It is not slow at all, it is incredibly fast considering the values and spread to people but, it does take work.
Since this snapshot, I have added 1200 posts to my blog and now stand at 1303 including this one and, I am also closing in on 3000 followers. People worry about that metric, I do not as the number is irrelevant. As is my rep of 70 considering people can buy reputation scores now.
But, there is one thing that is very relevant and that is that I am just as keen to be a part of this system as I was then. It was around the time of this snapshot that I started trading and realised that Steem has massive potential. I have and will make many mistakes but I am hoping that the general direction is the same as Steem itself, up.
I hope that this view from 10 months ago helps some people realise where they may be in 10 months if they are really willing to work to create good content and be a part of the community. The and is the most important part here as it is the community that makes this place really worth it.

I wish that I could collect my old articles and put them in one post but I don’t know how to do it.
It would be so interesting to go down memory lane. I have to admit that I was much more motivated and also inspired by less members. I read much more these days and somehow I got to know everybody’s personalities much better.
I never liked huge shopping malls and prefer to get my goodies at flea markets ☺️😉
I know what you mean and I find that the 'more senior' are often either too busy with development or two busy in their circles.
Yap! Exactly! I am even too busy or tired to focus on writing my own proper articles. 🙈
I am happy though that I can curate for music, Austrians and People who participate in a few challenges, to extend my circle. Somehow my responsibility started shifting and helping others to grow became more time consuming. On a long run it’s a very important part to keep the platform vibrant and even alive if you listen to so many frustrated Steemians.
It’s very hard (even for myself) to get good enough rewards. I tried it out how it is to be a minnow again with my resteem profile @massivevibration
It’s a looooot of “work” to be appreciated as a newcomer. It was very difficult back then, as it is NOW but without having a specific Community in your Back to support you, it’s nearly impossible to get noticed.
I don’t even think nor count on any whales these days. It was so wonderfully exciting, when @berniesanders popped by with a huge surprise vote or blocktrades with 💯 and Bang you started flying or like me also sinking when smooth and abit flagged your Post for some damn experience.
Lucky enough to be on a few loyal autovoters.....I don’t know but it became a little boring.
I am blessed that I can count on my sweet followers. They never get tired to vote and comment. I kindly reply!

I remember my first bigger vote was from the @thejohalfiles and was around $30. It lasted 20 minutes before @abit and @smooth took it :D
Yup! You nailed it with this statement. I've found a few friendly "whale" votes here and there, but nothing of truly significant value. The incentive for whales to waste their voting power on minnows has disappeared with voting bots that they sponsor. It's a dog-eat-dog world out there now where hundreds of minnows literally need to support each other in order to "make ends meet", and that's just to get by with a halfway decent return.
Ok, I may sound like I'm complaining, but I'm not. I'm just discussing how the environment is. And we all need to adapt to survive, and try to be the change that we want, and hope for it to catch on.

25 cents to about $3.35 today in 10 Months is a great return on any Steem purchased.
If Steem was to rise the same approximately 13x over the next 10-12 months I think everyone here today would be extremely happy. We would be sitting at $43.55
That would be an amazing number and there would be a ton of millionaires from Steem. More importantly in my opinion there would be a ton of people who could afford to change their lives. Might be something simple like buying some clothes they currently can't afford for their kids or maybe funding options for their kids futures (my plan) or maybe getting to stop working that second (or third) job they have to be able to pay the bills.
There is so much potential to the futures of the people here on Steemit and I think sometimes that gets lost in the hustle of it for many others. If those with the most influence continue to make more minnows succeed the demand for Steem, SBD, and the Steemit platform would skyrocket. They wouldn't need to worry about earning so much money from their bot delegations as the value of Steem would be so high that those profits just wouldn't matter.
Based on the way demand grows we honestly could see growth beyond the 13x seen in the last 10 months if people continue to help onboard new members, those raping the reward pool get counteracted, and those in a position to help others start using more of that power to help the little guys grow without worrying so much about instant profits.
Seriously can you imagine 50,000, or how about 500,000 steemit bloggers earning even enough that they can help pay some of their bills and making their lives a little better. I'm not talking about becoming full time bloggers, just ones that earn a little side income to help give a little relief.
I have some thoughts on how this all happens, but the reality is as a minnow without the means to purchase thousands of SP the chances of myself making much of a difference are probably fairly slim.
There is massive potential but short-sightedness will cost many people who need it most.
it would and as distribution continues, it will get better. I feel a shift coming.
This helps me stay engaged and working.
Ten months ago, the amount of SP I have now didn't hold much weight as you can see by the prices. Things can change relatively quickly and when prices hit the 50 mark, a few hundred makes a dolphin. People are yet to understand this yet. 1000 SP at 50 dollars is $50,000 worth. People should be 'working harder' to build themselves but, the scam will keep the price down which means, work hard and well.
I am really hoping that we see $50, but prefer it not to happen until I have time to a few thousand SP. Would much rather earn it while the price is lower as it's considered earned income in the US once you earn the money. Then if you sell there will be Profits or Losses based on the difference from the Earned Value to the Sold Value. It's a lot to keep track of and I fear most here do not even have the slightest clue about the tax implications about their earned income from posts.
Will keep plugging away and see where I stand at the end of the year. Either way I'm sure it's better then where I am currently as I will keep pushing forward towards my long term goals.

I have never come close to that even when prices were up near 10. I think my largest just touched 200 a couple months ago at the ATH.
A trip down the memory lane often makes us realize the value of the things we perhaps didn't notice or bother to appreciate before.
And I guess that will be the case for the present which will eventually be the future's past. Wait, I got confused with my own statement.

A life lesson rarely considered as most let society define what 'well' means.
That is really inspiring to read. Although it makes me once again kick myself for not joining Steemit sooner. UGH! I am going to try my best for the next 11 months. I don't have high dreams of becoming a whale though...just a minnow... :)
Owk I think this is motivation enough ...in few days time I will be 3 months old on steemit and have 7 more months to make it 10 months and I already know I am Gonner be big by then if I continue with this enthusiasm .
I am confused as to how you managed to to reputation 64 in 3 months with just 100 posts and according to you, you wernt making much in your payouts back then...how how how???
You said people can buy reputation now...Just hearing it for the very first time though . Buying reputation is like taking the juice from the from the orange. Where is the fun in that. To me, seeing my reputation grow gradually and on a daily basis gives me the indication that I am working hard.
Rep for me has mostly been through consistency of posting and reputation of voters. If you look at the list, even back then they were among the highest on the platform at the time. This mean with very little monetary reward, reputation was still possible.
This was also on a different reward curve as it was before HF19. Now it is linear.
This is really Inspirational. You've done well for yourself over the last 10 months.
But like you said, times on steemit have changed, and so have the people. It seems the people in your early days were better off. Lol
More early adopters, longer views... less spam.
Your story is encouraging. Progress at the very beginning is very slow. And I hope that in 10 months I will be able to write about myself that I have succeeded. Thank you for your article.
