A "fresh coat of paint" will NOT fix all of your Steemit problems!
My family and I had the privilege of attending a wedding over the weekend. The celebration was beautiful, and the young couple was in love.
The wedding day was wonderful. The night at our hotel prior to the wedding day was a different matter.
A Fresh Coat of Paint
I have heard many times in my life that "All it needs is a fresh coat of paint." This phrase implies that changing the outer appearance of any given item will make it better. This piece of advice is indeed true in many situations.
I remember when my wife and I purchased our first home. A fresh coat of paint did wonders for our kitchen, living room, and bedrooms. The rooms looked brighter which caused the rooms to seem bigger. In our situation, this advice served us well.
While at the hotel, I noticed that our room had received a fresh coat of paint. But instead of making the room feel better, I realized quickly that the new paint was a poor attempt to cover up bigger issues.
Fresh paint works wonders when the problem is only "skin deep." But when you are facing deeper issues, more comprehensive measures need to be taken.
A No Smoking Sign Does Not Mean That There Has Never Been Smoke.
When I walked into the hotel room, I could immediately tell that someone had smoked in the room. I told a hotel worker (who was in the hall) that we had requested a non-smoking room. She informed me that the rooms were non-smoking, but the smoking signs had not been removed yet.
There is a big difference between a non-smoking room and a room that has never been smoked in. A fresh coat of paint makes the walls look brighter, but it is not capable of removing smoke that has seeped in the walls for months or years. We were experiencing a classic case of throwing a band-aid on a life-threatening wound. More band-aids were not the answer, because they only addressed symptoms instead of the cause of the problem.
A Fresh Coat of Paint for Your Steemit Blog
I personally enjoy a well-designed website. I am a very visual person so the look and appearance of a blog or website is important to me. (FYI, I am adding a Steemit Cover Image to my list of things to do).
But great appearance only goes so far when the rest of the blog or website is poorly designed and operated. Visual design is not a replacement for:
- Quality Content
- Consistency
- Authentic Engagement
- Genuine Care Of Others
- Good Business Practices
- A Desire to Serve and Give
A Fresh Coat of Paint for the Steemit Platform
Steemit is still a very young platform. We have and will continue to have many growing pains. I hope that we do not try to address these types of major issues with only aesthetic fixes.
Great UI and a fresh design do not overcome the challenges of:
- Onboarding New Members to the Community
- Education and Best Practices about the Platform
- The Self-Centered Mindset that Seeks to be Served
- Flag Wars and Differing Payout Philosophies
- Clashes Regarding Expectations and Goals for the Future
Final Thoughts
If a fresh coat of paint is all that is needed, go for it! Give yourself, your home, your Steemit blog a new look.
But realize that deep issues require more time and attention than surface level fixes. A non-smoking sign does not guarantee that a room has never been smoked in!

Doesn't work in real estate either. However it makes you more and gets contacts to inspections. Need a strong foundation and great location and meet core needs of buyer
I see the correlation between Steemit and real estate. The platform is the location. Now we need to make sure that we grow as a community and meet the needs of our followers.

Good point. I am not a tech savvy but i am learning to improve my blog and to be more engaging as possible. Steemit is my new way of portal, and i planned to hold on for long period. Thank you for all this pointers, it sure helps a lot.

@sumatranate, great points you bring up! I ultimately look more for "authenticity and heart" in a blog... So, I would say that if someone's foundation is one based on heart, the rest can be learned or improved upon

Good points you got there.. I think I'm doing fine, but a fresh coat of paint is in my case working to learn more about markdown. I know it, and it's on my to do list.. Being aware is the first step right?

I really agree with you @sumatranate. I need a new coat of paint on my steemit blog, be it looks and more. something new will give a new nuance change. I hope on steemit platform there is something better renewal from now on
