@randowhale1 and @randowhaletrail are both siblings of the upvote bot @randowhale. If you look at the main comment from @steemvote you see that he/she used that bot to upvote this comment. These bots have delegated Steem Power from other users and can upvote a lot of money. How much exactly you can find out on Steem Now.
Funnily I have released a video about exactly this bot explaining how to use it.
And no, @avilsd I didn't come here to hijack your post like @steemvote did but I took my opportunity when I saw it fitting.

The bots and the way people can pay to have content upvoted degrades the whole point of steemit where good content that interests or excites the reader(s) receive rewards however now we find ourselves ranting how these random ass bots come and post everywhere saying pay me 0.03 SBD and i will resteem / upvote / follow ... IT NEEDS TO BE STOPPED!
and im not saying all bots are bad for example @cheetah and @originalworks that stop spam and search the internet for similar content to stop copy and pasters are great as they up hold the integrity of the platform

The problem is that the system doesn't work like that. For now the platform lacks a way to distribute content in clever ways. The upvote bots allow people to be seen in the hot and trending categories.
I agree that these bots are somehow counterintuitive to the platform but it seems that this is exactly where the platform is going to and it will increase ten-fold and more if they don't change the underlying mechanics.
Is that a bad thing? Not neccessarily, it depends what we as a hive mind do with that. So far it is a fun anarcho-capitalistic ride.
