Keeping Up With Steemit Updates, Why Should all Steemians check out GitHub! The Best Source of Information

in #steemit8 years ago (edited)

Hello Steemians,

This post is dedicated to help those who are interested with keeping up with the latest Steemit Updates. I'm kinda aware that many of you seek announcement whenever there are changes made to Steemit.
It seems like Steemians don't seem to know where to find the right information, so let me recommend the right sources which every user should try to keep up with

General Tips

Tip1 Follow More Steemit Accounts

Just like @steemitguide, there are plenty of Accounts which you should follow to keep up with Steemit. These Individuals may occasional post unrelated Steemit Content, but you can expect many of them to be really resourceful.

Top Recommended Blogs to Follow:
@ned - the founder of Steemit (If there is anyone you should follow, it's the Developer's themselves)
@steemitblog - Everything about Latest Steemit Updates
@ausbitbank - Seems to dedicate Posts for Latest Steemit Updates
@blocktrades - Related Steemit Content
@hisnameisolllie - Eduational Steemit Stats
@pfunk - Steem Guides
@dantheman - Steemit Related Posts
@roelandp - Steemit Tool Developer Posts
@masteryoda - Steem & Steem Dollars Payout Stats
@timcliff - Steemit Related Posts

There are many more accounts, but don't expect them to be always posting about Steemit! If you think that your Blog 'Feed' will be filled with Post that you're not interested in than my advise is to do your own research and don't be surprise if you miss out on important updates

Tip2 It's best to just follow everyone on the Witness List

Please Check-Out this Page Below:
https://steemit.com/~witnesses

These Individuals will occasionally do Witness Reports, essentially they are the one's who were voted by the community for their contribution. It's their job to keep up with Steemit, so they are the most knowledgeable individuals keeping track of this Project.

Don't know what a Steem Witness is?
Checkout my previous Post > What is a Exactly is a STEEM Witness and why every User should Vote !

Perhaps they may post unrelated Steemit Content from time to time but if you're in doubt or can't find a particular post that solves your question, feel free to ask them for help and support! You'll be surprised how Steemians love to interact with one another, definitely expect all Steemit Witnesses to be individuals willing to help you out. (HINT: You should Vote them as a Witness if they help solve your problem and you believe they are individuals you can trust)

Insider Tip

Why, am i saying 'Insider Tip' well.. to be honest many of us will know about this but only a few of us will actually make use of this! Everyone keeps hearing that this a decentralized Project! Yet so many are clueless to why changes are made and who makes these changes. Why isn't @ned account all about Steemit Tweaks, Updates Or News, because he wants to enjoy Steemit for what it is and he has already made all the important information accessible to everyone.

Developers created a Social Media, not some Centralized Corporation where a selected few know what is going on behind the scenes of the business. I think he expects the community to generate Steemit related content, that's what few of us have been doing, so please don't start complaining that Steemian's generally aren't aware of whats happening with the project or Developers don't provide announcements for any changes that occur to Steemit platform.

This is not a Secretive Project

Did You Know?
That STEEM is a Decentraised Blockchain and Steemit is the interactive open-source Project linked to STEEM.

Steemit.com is the react.js web interface to the world's first and best blockchain-based social media platform.
By Open-Source, it means that it's accessible by everyone, please feel free to checkout the official project on GitHub

All the changes made to Steemit will be approved by the Developers, so be sure to check github for more information or to get involved in helping develop the site.

GitHub is a web-based Git repository hosting service. It offers all of the distributed version control and source code management (SCM) functionality of Git as well as adding its own features.

Still don't understand what is has to with Steemit? Well, Git is a “version control system,” what’s that mean?

When developers are creating something (Steemit, for example), they are making constant changes to the code and releasing new versions, up to and after the first official (non-beta) release.

Version control systems keep these revisions straight, and store the modifications in a central repository. This allows developers to easily collaborate, as they can download a new version of the software, make changes, and upload the newest revision. Every developer can see these new changes, download them, and contribute.

Many of you must be wondering? What on earth is Github? and why is the Steemit Project Hosted on there?

A bunch of developers can pretty much modify and experiment with Steemit, thats why it hosted on Github so that there wouldn't be any down-time (A good idea knowing that people's Money is Involved) and everyone gets the right to keep up with development of the project. So if you check out Github, you get to see all the codes and magic behind Steemit.

This also means that if Top Steemit Developers want to make changes to the project , they need to get confirmation from other Steem Developers and Witnesses. Hence why Steem Update 0.14.0 was delayed because majority of Steem Witness noticed some errors, therefore the update was postponed until majority agree to implement the changes in design.

Steemit is fully a open sourced project so feel to check out the Github page and perhaps contribute yourself!

Tip3 Checking out Steemit GitHub for Updates

Official Steemit GitHub Page

I'll make it Simple So That Everyone Can Keep Up with Steemit

So you're on the Official Steemit GitHub Page and now wonder what to do now, obviously from the above Picture there just a bunch of files. Within seconds you realize it's all too Technical, you know why?
Because its bascially the entire Steemit Project, yup establishing Social Media through boring Codes! Yet we all love service this platform provides!

Feel free to explore everything but i'll make your life easier by just showing you the right source that you shoul refer to when you want to know about latest changes happening to the Steemit Project.
The image above it Official GitHub of Steemit , if you want a simple notes you should be looking at
this link > Steem Official GitHub Project Update Announcement

The Notes are from Daniel Larimer who is one of the founders of Steemit also known as Github User ''bytemaster''

If you check out this Post
He simply made reference on one of the pull reference request made available on Github

''What are ''Pull Requests''?

Here is Pull Request 460
You fork a repository, make a great revision to the project, and want it to be recognized by the original developers, maybe even included in the official project/repository.
You can do so by creating a pull request, so the authors of the original repository can see your work, and then choose whether or not to accept it into the official project. Whenever you issue a pull request, GitHub provides a perfect medium for you and the project’s maintainer to communicate.

Collaboration made simple. Steemit Developer upload the code to Github, which all users have full access to and are allowed to contribute based on the consensus of the community. Take some time to explore the project by keeping up with it and enjoy learning!

I am grateful for posters like yourself that keep me updated on the workings of steemit, its one of the (several) reasons that I follow you! I may not always have time to go reading into the GitHub logs for what is happening under the hood, but people like you do a great job of keeping me up to date, and for that I am more grateful then you may know!

I can't make heads or tails of GitHub.
It's Geek to me.

Who's running the @steemitguide account? I just came across it and really like what I've seen so far.

Great Question!

awesome post. good info. thanks.

Thank you. A lot of useful ...
For the study - a lot of information ...

I was following the whole list but not you, haha. Corrected that. And yes, I really needed that link to What are Witnesses anyways? so a big thank you for that!

I don't argue with anything in this post and find this post to be very valuable. Much more so than most posts. However it doest change the fact that it would be SOOOO easy for Steemit HQ to simply make a Steemit Post about updates, which ones were happening, why and how they work.
VERY simple and to NOT do this is not only BAD business but its inconsiderate of all the people who spend HOURS a day on here and don't want to have to search around to get information about THIS platform that we are spending hours on.
Also I follow EVERY single one of the people you mention but one and none of them actually post comprehensive posts about updates that are going to happen or how the updates that take place work. Its just little tidbits here and there.
I LOVE steemit and will continue to use it regardless but this doesn't hang the fact that Steemit PR and Communications are HORRIBLE.
If Steemit ever wants to be popular they have a lot to fix including this.
Thanks again for doing what they can't do them selfs, though even this post needs a lot more to be adequate to the updates and changes .
Best Regards~*~

Thankf for this info. Learned something new.
