I always had capitalist mindset. At first glance this idea of UBI was not for me. But later, when I went deeper into Universal Basic Income... this idea is great in terms of humanity. It gives a sense of safety, make us more productive, and we can reach our dreams much easier. It make us more human :)
I am not for UBI at all. Generations of families have worked for their income, made their dreams come true (it just meant that they had to work harder) and my main concern is this: where is the money for an UBI going to come from?
The government? Who is already trillions of dollars in debt.
Companies? Why would they pay someone for NOT working for them.
Big Banks? Oh, the ones that had to be bailed out less than a decade ago, but could still give their CEOs fiscal year-end bonuses.
Philanthropists? How do you think they made their money? By working hard, investing smart and knowing when to say no.
Businesses from the pioneer days to the present did not have a safety net. They struggled and learned from his or her mistakes.
That was my initial reaction to the idea. But the idea of Steemit and its paradigm has provoked some thoughts to the contrary that the money isn't taken from anyone and given to anyone. It's fiat and created as needed based on the resistance and workload of intelligent labor. I do agree with that, but not in the terms of an UBI. To me that is just another form of welfare; which people begin to rely upon and eventually say, "oh well, I gave it a shot. Now I'll just sit here."
I am fully committed to Steemit and not for the cryptocurrency. To me that is just a benefit way down the list of my reasons.
I write and blog daily and comment, do the upvoting and resteeming of things that I think are important and have real meaning behind the words.
I left facebook and mostly twitter too due to the lack of discipline and bias ways of the people involved. I am online to work, not worry about petty high school drama and rumors.
I will not support it if it's crowd-funded via Extortion but the invention of crypto currency and Steemit have given me an epiphany as to what money really is. Check this out:
It's whatever society deems it to be by action and usage not by decree...

Here is the only book on money that matters:

You're right. But they aren't considering the costs. All they hear is "free money!" Haha. The whole concept is impossibly un-affordable and destructive. In Finland, they found that people who received payments began turning down job offers and staying home..
Actually it encourages people not to work anymore. That is what happened in Finland. And let's not start with saying it GIVES anything. Don't neglect to mention that UBI must first be funded via taxation (theft).
