New Personal Policy: Flagging all zero-value-add vote/follow begging comments.steemCreated with Sketch.

in steemit •  last year

I'm going to be flagging any comments simply begging for upvotes/resteems/follows/donations without adding any meaningful content.

This includes people, bots, or any other comment that has no explicit value or relevance to the thing on which it is commented.

I encourage you to join me; there's too much noise.

Authors get paid when people like you upvote their post.
If you enjoyed what you read here, create your account today and start earning FREE STEEM!
Sort Order:

If we all do it then maybe they will learn there are better ways to succeed here

Is this a change in your opinion on flags? I thought I read a PR on github where you thought flagging should only be used for abuse? I may be wrong because I didn't go read it again just now.

Should we consider this abuse?

comment that has no explicit value

There have been many times in the past when some unsuspecting new user has been flagged for telling someone "great post!" or "thank you!"

Before the slider those flagged by whales for a simple comment were annihilated. I think in the same PR you advocated removing sliders all together.

The "human" spammers are annoying and need deterring but I'm not sure flagging them to the ground is the solution.

explicit value

Value is subjective. I may appreciate and value someone saying thank you on my post. I may not appreciate others flagging them for it.

Also be aware that users have in the past used tags to encourage groups to form and do this within certain tags.

I don't see an all call for flagging as productive. In the next few days there should be a new group to respond to and help deter comment spam.

·

begging for follows is spam and that is abuse. Flagging just isa form of negative reinforcement, its not an attack on someone, its just a downvote. and YS flagging IS the solution, they wont learn otherwise. They dont read their replis, so thge onluy ay to get their attentionis to flag and tell them theyve been flagged and well, i believe it will somehow get their attention and theyll review their own commentys and se how they didnt make any money spoamming begs for folows. Im talking about the Asking for follows pam only here by the way

Good comment congrats getting almost $3 on a cmment! its an achievement! imagine if all ur comments got that much !

·

I think follow/upvote/resteem panhandling is abuse as it is not meaningful or useful content. It's just spam.

I should add a FAQ, but ultimately the behaviors on the site are much more relevant to setting our culture than an FAQ most people don't bother to read.

·
·

Personally, before I flag anyone, I look at their comments page, if I see a repetitive pattern, then they deserve a warning shot, and a flag if they don't respond and change their habits.

·
·
·

That sounds reasonable. As a new steemian, I imagine there are many behaviors on this platform that vary from others I'm familiar with, such as Facebook. For example, upvoting every comment or reply people make to me, because in Facebook land, people "like" everything. It will take time to learn about the culture here. I agree with flagging those with a pattern of "spamming" and perhaps offering advice to new users who seem unaware of how to be a steemian, rather than flagging them flat-out for a "first offense."

How about sending 0.001 SBD for upvotes?

Employs a bot that opportunistically buys votes as late as possible on ready spam that was posted well in advance.

timcliff and gtg ignored my respective comments about it.
Adm made a token gesture of downvoting it, but obviously never had intention of eradicating it.
bernie either ignored or missed my comment about it when I commented to his "abusereports"
themarkymark was the first to negate rewards on a few of its posts, but ceased, because he pays rent on his Steem and fighting spam costs him dearly.
Anyx stated that steemcleaners do not fight spam, only fraud.
patrice's spaminator only acts against its marginal account in terms of spamming operations and rewards.
I expect more bad than good from patrice.
Maybe you will put an end to it?

Hi bud, just spotted u flagged a post from a pretty decent guy. Can I ask why? Just thinking maybe u made a mistake...if you don't mind explaining what i missed?

https://steemit.com/steemit-dev/@nettybot/say-hello-to-the-nettyvoter-bid-bot-0-25-sbd-minimum-bid-100-votes-2-hour-periods-potential-profit-75

I plan to do the same on people who comment on my blogs, been getting to much of that lately. :)

I have read some horror stories on here about people who flagged others and then essentially became a part of a bully campaign from the person they flagged. Do you think Steemit will have some anonymity added to this feature in the future?

·

No.

Just point out that maybe SteemIt Inc, and those who work for them, should spend more time on DOCUMENTING HOW this platform works and then maybe it wouldn't attract so many of these types of users...
I know the is futile though. I've watched SteemIt Inc for well over a year and have seen no signs of professional solutions to the problems they keep creating.

Flag away sport!

·

I've said this over and over again since I joined... it shouldn't be this hard for a newbie to understand; if so it's either too complicated and should be simplified, or it's too poorly documented.

·
·

...and yet somehow, you managed to make this comment. ;)

·
·
·

Lol, the basics are clear. It's the rewards systems that are confusing. As well as a few of the features and a significant portion of the rules.

Just a minute.
Steemit is a community. Although the hope that is grows into a better content platform is shared by many, society in general has deteriorated. Education has become nearly worthless. America stands last in academics in the developed world. Steemit is like a Walmart of people with few shopping at Harrods. If you do what you do you drain your power away from rewarding good content. If you reward good content and ignore the rest, they will eventually find it futile and go away.
Secondly when we start being the judge without guidelines we always go too far. People can start flagging based on religious or political beliefs.
I did flag a post once only because it was a racial supremacist propaganda and I still regretted it. No matter how offensive, it was still free speech.
I share your passion. Wish his platform was better but I am not sure if that is the way to do it.

·

there is a difference between "low quality" which is subjective, and spam, which is objective
I upvote you, so please follow/upvote me

·
·

Well I did upvote you and followed you.

·
·
·

and refollowed. One way I can tell who is a spammer is by looking at comments and posts...somebody that has 100 comments and it's all f4f spam? LOL ;> not you, btw!

·
·
·
·

Thanks Steve and thanks for recognizing that I am not getting 100 votes or comments. I guess this may be the only job for some or whatever. Who knows. I am just a wanderer here. Don't have much time for steemit. On the other hand I wish that when I open my iPad and look at new posts I could find something I would want to read. Days go by and nothing God comes up. Some flower pics, some porn some spam, just weird stuff.

·
·
·
·
·

If you really want something to read, you could try @greenrun, he is from Nigeria, and he has some truly remarkable little stories. He does not think of himself as a writer/author, however he has a very unique and talented way of relating a story. In case your wondering, I do not know this person, have no clue as to what kind of person he is like face to face, I have been promoting him a little bit because he is the kind of person steemit was created for, he is a content thought provoking provider. As for eye candy, I don't think you can beat @neonartist, especially his current work for a kids play area, it is some of the best airbrush painting I have seen since the 70's.

·
·
·
·
·
·

Thanks for guiding me in that direction

·
·
·
·
·
·

I second this, although it may be a little off the original topic of this post thread, but @greenrun has a great way with words

·
·
·
·
·
·
·

Thanks a lot boss. I appreciate that.

·
·
·
·
·

what it will come down to is finding the steemers whose work speaks to you; people that post on subjects you like...I guess it's putting in the work to filter down to content that you want to see.

the fewer folks you have in your feed, the easier to select for that

that is part of the problem with the f4f spam

·

The reward pool is limited. By flagging low quality content, you increase the percentage of the reward pool that goes towards good quality content. Flagging is a useful service to the whole community. It isn't censorship, since no matter how badly a comment gets flagged, it can still be read.

·
·

I have no clue. If a comment is flagged it will prevent that person from getting any reward so that the other commenters have a bigger reward? Or is that not correct either? I tend to stay confused, Sorry. Thank you for any reply and take care. Paul

·
·
·

It is like a negative vote. If a comment is upvoted to the value of say $0.13 and then someone flags it whose voting power normally grants a $0.10 vote, then the comment (or post) will end up still earning $0.03. If it is downvoted into negative value, then it gets hidden from view (at least via the steemit platform), although it isn't censored because the user can still click to read it after all.

·
·
·
·

Thank you for the info.

·
·

Did not know that. Thanks

·

This is why I want a block. Mute is all well and good for hiding them from ME... but it doesn't stop them from posting comments on my posts, it just hides them from me so I don't know it happened. I prefer to block them (trolls/spammers) from using my posts as a vehicle to push their own agendas. And downvote/flag isn't really the solution unless you're ready to sing tens of thousands of dollars into the platform to be of "worth" enough that your downvote actually impacts them.

Yeah I get them, but, I just ignore it. I will follow you if I like your contents, not because you followed me.

How about people who just save your labor, time, intensive edited photos and post it on their "Best Photo Trails" blog, saying we are helping minnows get noticed.

Ummmm, no, you just took my photo and people are following you for it.

·

good points!

·

I consider that abuse and would be fine flagging people who repost your stuff simply to profit from it without adding any other value.

If they want you to be noticed, they can resteem you or upvote you onto trending.

·

hey is it true that using bots someone could denial of service attack the steem blockchain and add so much data that the whole thing is fucked? witnesses would have to coorindate and manualy remove the culprit right? Then the whole point of steemit is overrided though because with majroty consensus, wtnesses can reverse any transactiona n delet any post they want riught? It would be like if 51 percebt of bitcoin minrs all coirdindated to revsres a speciic trnsaction, right? Its probobly never going to happen BUt its entirely possible right? How could it ever be impossible? Its software....right?

so how do we address this isue of people getting angry at bots and accusing steemit power users of using bots to get rich, or to flag users etc, would any of you admit to it if it was true? do we have a collective oligarchy here? Has east asia always been at war with Eurasia?

Anyway just wantd to ask you this because i am VERY scared about some posts i just saw by elfspice and lok1 who i stumbled upon by acident and i ran into a BUNCH of drama, and its scarey that we dont have some sort of democratic way to put everything out in the open and allow users to all vote 1 person one vote on non binding decisions, just to show the opinin of the people, liek when there is a disspute between two users, we let them both make their case, in a NEUTRAL post that WONT be falgd, and thir cases are both made, Steemit Court, and we have an ARBITRATOR and it HAS to be a NON steemit user OR someone who can PROVE their neutrality in the case. i swear we can do it

we should also have a council of dolphins to counter any abusive flagging by any whales if they come up, but moe importantly we ned that tribunal type setting to even figueout whats goihg on with any given conflict between any number of users.

I feel like everyone shiuld have a chance to beheard, and WITHOUT bgetting flagged peopel should be allowd to make thir case no mattr what it is, otherwise we are no better than reddit with thir archving of posts and banning and deleting of content, so lets get a middle ground a NEUTRAL ground, someon who WONT EVER take sides

I feel like I could help find this type of person, we need a Steemit Judge, someone who can really prove they are fair!

Anyway a Steemit Judiciary system would be VERY VERY VRY helpful for the public image of steemit, if we had checks and balances, maybe a steemit legislature, a steemit supreme court, and a steemit congress of witnesses, or we vote ion actual representatives for our geographic locations even!

We should find ways to mediate dispiutes hre without relying on the simple fact of one user always having more poer than the other! its rarely that users in a conlfiuct are tied evenly and so we see a lot of uneven fights, but imagin if we could STOP teh fiughts BEFOE they tart by having a COURTROOM where users could BOTH make thir case WITHOUT fear of flaging, and they will be able to hacve their cases presented equally, AND we will ven give them LAWYERS steemit LAW group. yes i can see it now!!!

·
·

Don't be scared, @ackza.

·
·

hey is it true that using bots someone could denial of service attack the steem blockchain and add so much data that the whole thing is fucked?

no. that is not possible.

witnesses would have to coorindate and manualy remove the culprit right?

no. that is not possible either.

·
·
·

yeah I guess i thought about itmore, and i realized, 35 MG is just 35 MB, servers can handle plenty of terabytes and websites like youtube have plenty of data, and they back it up too, and our system is decentralized, and yeah i guess its silly to think a decentralized system could suffer from same sort of denial of service attack that systems like cloudflare exist to prevent, by having multiple backups, and steem has lotsof witness servers, and we would only need a few to serve everyone acessing steemit right? and steemit.com is hosted in multiple places and we have busy.org and yah i guess steem hasnt ever been offline except for hard fork updates right?

sorry i am just a beginner learning about this stuff and im actually grateful for the work develiopers have done for steem, im not complaianing!

Hi @sneak, I found you through your flag / downvote of the Minnow Accelerator Project's Six of the Best" MAP27 Minnow Contest.

I first made the logical assumption that you were an asshat troll, but then I noticed the 64 rep next to your name and took the time to look you up and see what you are about.

I am going to take you at your word in this post that you are genuinely interested in reducing the "noise" on Steemit and supporting meaningful content.

I believe there may be a misunderstanding here about what MAP is and what that contest post does - because the post you flagged definitely adds value to Steemit and helps reduce the noise, so you are working directly counter to your stated purpose.

First - how does MAP add value? The entire Minnow Accelerator Project is designed to help boost up minnows that are actually creating original content - the exact kind of minnows and minnow posts that are drowned out by the spam and upvote/resteem/follow/donation posts. Minnows throw their name in the hat as candidates for the current MAP 6 of the Best contest - @richarde looks through recent posts by each candidate and selects candidates who are posting original content. So the first and most obvious way the post you flagged adds value to the community is as a curation post. These 6 minnows featured in the post, of whom I am one, have selected some of their best recent work and submitted the links in the comments. By my quick count the six contestants have submitted between them, in the last week, 48 original posts. You have submitted, in the last month... two posts. Each contestant receives a 10% share of the payout for that post you flagged, so you are directly serving to discourage some promising new content creators, content creators who are not follow for follow spammers, who are not comment spammers, and who in fact are contributing quite a lot of good content and helping to reduce the "noise".

Second, the post serves as a cross-pollinator - each of the contestants brings their own followers to the post, and of course some are going to like another contestant's posts as well. I have already found several awesome Steemit users through this post - check out @theneohippy in particular, some of her posts are insanely detailed and well written - check out herpickle post man! I challenge you to walk away from that post not impressed with her content.

Finally the MAP also provides a community to continue supporting the minnow contestants after the contest is over, and of course one winner receives a 200 SP delegation for a week. To someone like you with $100,000+ in delegated SBD I am sure 200 SP seems like nothing - to me that would almost double my voting power, and with the minnows and minnow posts I am usually interacting with, it will allow me to bump deserving comments up to the top of posts for more exposure. I will put that 200SP to good use if I win, and I am sure all other contestants will as well.

And as for the community? In addition to running a dedicated MAP chat room, MAP encourages past participants to vote in the current contests and counts their votes towards determining the winner. This means that the minnow entrants in MAP get to interact with other users who were just in their same position. I have learned an immense amount about how Steemit works in my two months on platform - and a lot of that was in no way self-explanatory or obvious to a new user. I am happy to share my knowledge with even newbie-er users than myself, and will do so with future MAP contestants.

So I ask you sir - if you really mean what you said about working to reduce the noise on Steemit and supporting meaningful content - please remove your downvote. And if you have any shred of human decency, add a nice upvote as well.

I can tell you that for me personally, 1 SBD is a big deal - I just lost my job and we are saving everywhere we can. I got a 1 SBD upgoat from @minnowbooster to send to this contest post you downvoted, and I intended it as a show of support for all the awesome content creators (remember that all entrants receive a share of the post's earnings). To say that I was disheartened when I logged on this morning to see that despite me giving what was a very meaningful gift given my personal financial situation the contest post had actually lost money would be an understatement. Make things right dude.

Cheers - Carl

·

I first made the logical assumption that you were an asshat troll

Reasonable choice.

I think I might one day write a bot that automatically flags any posts with sequentially increasing integers in the user's post titles.

Post some OC.

I have already found several awesome Steemit users through this post - check out @theneohippy in particular, some of her posts are insanely detailed and well written - check out herpickle post man! I challenge you to walk away from that post not impressed with her content.

I didn't downvote her. I downvoted the spam post.

·
·

Fair enough, if you think that is a spam post. I appreciate the response

·
·

Reading your replies to comments on this post it was pretty obvious that you were not, in fact, an asshat troll. Or at least not one of the garden variety. EDIT and I mean that as a compliment

For those opposed to flagging, obviously use your judgement.

I have flagged bots that post immediately after you put up your post and they leave the f4f message. I then saw other new people upvote the same comment made on that new persons post. They do it because it works enough.

I also came across a post that appeared to be spam, but my gut made me check it out. Turned out to be a young man from Africa, English second language, so I educated him.

He thanked me, and when he'd made his first post asked me to look at it, of course he wanted a upvote and comment. Anyway I looked, gave a welcome comment and an upvote. Then he came back and thanked me for my comment, but asked me again for an upvote. I told him I already did and to stop harassing me. He did, but I think he thought my upvote would actually be worth something, lol.

Anyway, point is, use your judgement, we don't need the spam.

·

ytes always discern use DISCERNMNT! u always gotta giv benfit of doubt, check the potential spammr, mak sure thyre not a bot, if theya re a bot flag, if they are a real person just help them out
I learned that the actual REASON these people do that whole follow for follow thing is they LEARN that behavior from interacting with bots their whole lives online, so many bots and spam out there asking for follow for follow that peopel start icking up the behaviour! very sad actually! Peopel end up believing thats just normal behaviour

anyway we can help the peopel in developing nations like I have been, encourage autnegtic ghenune posting of thir home town, ven if they arenot proud of it, tell em it will look exoctic and adventurous to us and we WILl enjoy seeing images of other countries! its a given! anyway good comment! i am startingto rach critical typo mass as my back hurets d im ben huncing ovr on my bed and about to fall asleep man lmaximum typo lvels reach must hit sub,it

Same here.
We all need to up our report game to get rid of these pesky spammers.

I'm one of those people that loath flagging. I'm going to start warning people to stop this behavior and I'd like to post a link along with my warning regarding steemit etiquette.

Does anyone have an easy to read article explaining proper behavior on steemit for non english readers?

After my warning I will start flagging the individual for spamming, posting their content links on other people's comment section.

The Wild West was won when the good guys shot back. It only takes a few willing to make a stand to make a difference. IMO in the last 6 to 9 months there has been an improvement in content quality, but I think there is still progress to be made.

The problem here is that a flag costs a vote. In the scale of voting power, you're essentially wasting yours on stopping them from... well... being annoying. They're just as easily muted, which is free.

Though I do think a full on "block" feature needs to be added.

I have to say that I don't love flag, but sometimes we don't have other solution to stop the spamming. Usually I give a warning to the spammers with a link to my pst where I explain why spamming is a bad approach, after the first warning I'll flag.

I agree, I cited this issue on my blog post : How Spam is killing steemit and what to do about it (feel free to see it).
This is indeed getting out of hand and we must stay united against spammers and scammers unless they will destroy this platform.

You are doing well
And I am with you on that
Keep it up
I don't want to resteem... Etc when asked by someone

Yes, I've been reluctant to do so, but will probably start.

Is there any more support for moving the flag to beside the upvote button these days? It seems like that might be beneficial too.

this is a good idea i flag any spam comment about upvoted or follows it is poison and needs tp be delt with

in the near future massive stuffs are coming to change the world.

·

Yes blokchains are th future. But stem needs more decentralization ! It WILl com with more users BUT someone needs to buy up large amounts of steempower to balance the system out!
I wish steem was more decentralized but i am afraid now that too much steempower is in the hands of too few ad Steemit inc needs to basically HIRE some "fair' whales, basically create moderators, by delegating steempower,.... until steem actually decentrelaizes their power structure, then steem will only be semi decentralized, like imagien if all the bitcoin miners ended up all being in CHina...china would then control bitcoin, communits in charge of biggest blokchain, u think thats still decentralized? hell no! if someone coordinated all the steemit witnesses together, they could rule liek a centralied system.....we need to ahve an active plan to stop thios but the greed of the power users gets in the way of us ever becming atruely decentralized meritocracy.

The users with the most power have a clique and will never relinquish their power because it would require giving out steempower! which is money! so noone is gonna just give up their money! so SOMEONE from the OUTSIDE must BUY millions of dollars in steempower in order create a balance! maybe several of these users are nccisarty, so with afew million dollars in steempower, balance can be restored and Steemit can be fixed!

it would also help the pric of steem go up if someone did this :) it woudl be a great investkment, as VENTUALLy all of this WILL be solvd

too much money in steemit for us to just let it collapse or die, its going to get all of its issues fixed in the next year ortwo, and then it will just be new featue and nw upgrade after new uppgrade, i ant wait for steemit gaming ...and i cant wait for steemit VR and steem augmentd reality where u can upvote anything oustdie in teh real world, like pokemon go but where u can actually make money!

But we should have a way to ensue that steemit doesnt have some sort of ideological monolith.

·
·

like imagien if all the bitcoin miners ended up all being in CHina...china would then control bitcoin

Bitcoin is not controlled by the miners.

·
·
·

wel...actually whoever controls most of the nodes, they can control bitcoin, imean....are you saying that software is not subject to change?

if someone wanted to, and they bought up all the bitcoin nodes and controlled all the miners, they could manually revsrese any transaction they wanted
it would be a monumental task but its possible!

Why don't you think BTC is controlled by miners? Loosely and in a decentralized way, but theoretically, if some grey goo virus infected very bitcoin miner in the world, and they all were able to be directed by some AI consciousness that could control all their bodies like surrogates, it could manually make any change it wanted in the bitcoin ledger, and update it across all bitcoin nodes....

ior instead of an alien AI virus that controls people like puppets, just imagine the communist party of China, imagine the power china's communist party government could have over BTC if they simply started excerisizng draconian controls over them, sending police to confiscate priovate keys, i mean, they have control over all their exchanges, and theyll tighten it

and basicla;ly if u can control all the bitcoin nodes, ho si this not controlling bitcoin? its hartd to do but isnt it possible? probly easier to just start your own coin instead but snce BTC is so powerful and established it would be quite the prizee to have control over,

having it decentralized is just a challenge for controlling personalities who would want to find a way to bring all the bitcoin nodes under centralized control, now it would be possible for anyone with some money to invest in even MORE mining and create even more nodes, and so its a free market, but whoever spends the most on setting up mioning activities could take over BTC, noone seems to be doing that because its so expensove and a risk, and centralizing BTC would destroy its price!

but the chinese have to just pretend like they dont have any control at al over all those bitcoin nodes in china that they really do have control over because they can put a gun to the heads of the indisuals that actualy do have the private keys and passwords and force themto do whatever they want! Its a danger of allowing the chinese to out compte us in bitcoin mining

hey but I just like talking about thi s stuff, dont take any of it personally!

You probably know a lot more about how it all works than me! I could be wrong about how Im thinking about possible centralization of bitcoin by simply rounding up all the people who have all the miners/nodes

I hope you don't mind a link @sneak, but I just saw this right after reading this post.

Again, for those unsure about or against flagging, check out this post and see if you still feel the same way. https://steemit.com/steemit-police/@sherlockholmes/case-7-raping-the-reward-pool-with-1700-accounts-things-are-getting-serious

I'll be joining you on this. Actually, I've downvoted/flagged a couple comments like this ("follow me and I'll follow you", "please, upvote my posts",) although I hesitate a little bit to do this. It's an easy way to piss off the wrong people and get all your posts flagged, hidden and your account & reputation destroyed, if you are not a very powerful member of the community.

·

Don't worry about pissing people off; if they are shitposting spam, flag away. Influence does not give anyone a license to shitpost.

I am totally onboard with that! I posted something on this earlier. Like minds need to stick together. I am hoping Steemit will setup a Taskforce to deal with this crap! These guys are totally taking advantage of the Newbies, which I am one of. See ya on the circuit.

Flagrant violations? And how does one flag exactly? It would be nice to get rid of some nonsense. Particularly some of the actual posts.

I've been doing this since I started a year ago. It definitely helps the signal-to-noise ratio to get all those hidden or at the least placed at the bottom where they belong. It makes some people mad, claiming 'censorship' and the like. But this is our platform to use, and we have a vote on what we actually want here. Low value spam posts like those just bring everyone down along with the price. If we don't do something about it this platform will just be a bunch of bots posting "me too upsteem follow" on each others' stolen picture posts.

I'm with you.

Awesome, let's have a war on spam. I find that small flag votes are plenty to get those commments out of sight.

The worst is when i see obvious bot comments and then the OP actually gives it a good upvote...

Welcome to the club. The flag is there for a reason, we should use it when needed.

yup i agree i alays scold peopel who beg for folows or go "follow for folow" is ay this isnt Instagram bro! or i tel them "Asking for a follow will NOT help u get follows, maybe from some other peopel who are ust collectiving fllows but to get ORGANIC follows u cant ASK or them, if someone is gonan follow u, they are going to follow u, ASKIng for followsis NOT constructive, its like begging for moneyon the street and its really lame and yes we should just flag them we have to not be afraid to flag trash because if we dont they will continue the bad behaviouir like a child who getsrewarded for acting shitty so lts give negative reenforcement

flagging is NOT punishment, its just TAKING AWAY a positive re enforcement, its NEGATIVE reinforcement which is NOT punishment, so yeah, whatever money u make on ur posts u dont actually make until everyone has had their say! and peopel an downvote so yeah, its totally fair!

Same here. Upvoted and resteemed :-)

It's my first day as a steemian. There's a lot to learn and I'd definitely value less noise! I do want followers and upvotes, as I imagine most users do. However, I'm seeking to learn how to succeed by acting with integrity, not by posting meaningless comments that waste the readers' time. Wait, am I doing that now? haha. P.S. I believe you know my favorite guy, @relativityboy. Looking forward to knowledge and entertainment as I follow your blog. It felt good to enter the steemit world with my #introduceyourself post. https://steemit.com/introduceyourself/@mininthecity/introduceyourself

I see you ran afoul of nog and his bot army, what did you do to warrant 600 flags on a couple of your comments the past few days?

·

jesus is that really true? are thre realy bot armies?!?! Why havent they triggered a denial of service attack on steemit? Is steem blokchain really that poiwerful? if steemit.com goes down we still have busy.org right? Or is that denial of service thing about shuting dowj teh actual steem blokchain? by making it too long adding 35 MB a day?
next hardfork should REALy look into making sure this cant happen!

Also we should find out which users are spamming and find a way top limit the amountof data they can upload, but thyll just earn steempower to get around it wow thi is a problem isnt it? uh oh! better not leyt anyoen find out or price of steem coulk siuffer....im hoping bitcoin can make up for steems lack of performace,...i fel liek steem is only underperforming right now bnecause of allll thnew users who are just powering don or cashing out constantly

wanna tell me what is misinformation? i asked you if that denial of service attack lok1 brought up is ACTUALLy a real threat or not, sounds like it really is! but steem is suposed to get stronger as more users join, right? But honestly thre has to be vulnerabilities im just excited to learn about that! hey Im oin your side not lok1 's I dont agree with the ideathat early steemit users dont deserve the money they make, its all jelousy from lok1 its why hes making his new blockchain HE just wants power hah its all very simple! And the steemit wizards of course might come off as assholes to the new smart and up an coming users, but thats true for any boss of any company, and its all decentralized, people THINK there is some sort of power hierarchy and yeah there is, u cant deny it, but its open to anyone its free market and these popele like lok1 FORGET that ANYONE with FIAT money can get th steempower to make decisions on steem! theyre MAD because you guys MADE MONEY and theyre just forgetting that they can go make money OUTSIDE of steemit and then buy up steem! they act like the ONLY way to make a fortune is through investing in steem or "mining" it in teh early days...and i wont even go into that ill justs ay I understand that most people dont understand how steemit even works or how it startyed or how steem is even "mined" at all....and yeah it was easier to ammas steem in the early days, more opportunities just like ANY crypto currency is cheap in the neginning, ior easy to be mind, but i know its not that simple

i wish u wouldnt just dismiss my cmment as "misinformation" tho without explaining it kinda hurts and i would like to be friends with you since you seem to know a lot about how steem works and i want to learn more

It is getting pretty loud day by day , I wanted to start flagging but I kept calm, when you unleash the beast , it's going to be unstoppable

If i had lots of SP I would join you in flagging, but at present I feel it is best to use my minimal SP to upvote worthy content. I will leave the flagging (downvoting) to those who have higher SP and investment.

I am not too sure how flagging the bots will go, many have huge SP, so you could be asking for a huge retaliation war, but I wish you the best in your action against useless comments/spam and bots.

I though doing the same but than I read this post and thought that this is a very smart idea. I am a zero in coding but eager to learn it. Hopefully soon I can propose a change on github showing this warning message. Looking forward to see you in Lisbon!

some spam and copy paste comment , some useless comment are always surrounding every where

I tried flagging a few times, but got slammed. So now if I see bullshit, I leave a comment. Example some guy post "Quotes" and that is all. So I commented something like this:

two very nice quotes. But why did you chose to post those two and not two other quotes? A little context to help people understand your choices would help, otherwise it is just whistling in the wind and completely meaning less content. No context, no content.

they still got like 5 upvotes, but maybe next time they post they will add some value, or context. Example I felt like shit this morning, then i ran across this quote, it help me a bit.

That and you have a 60 plus rep, so you can flag without too much concern, but I being still new have to be very careful. Still I thank you for your efforts, most bots need to suffer an EMP pulse, problem is most of us are lucky to have the explosive power of an ordinary firecracker , and that is just not enough power to nuke anyone.LoL.

Enki and Enil *(sp), I forget which one got tired of the noise, but when he got mad mountains fell and oceans rose.

Good point @sneak, I agree with you as there are too many spam and acsm here (I outlined the recent abuse in my blog posts). Hopefully many will join in this figh against such behavior

GREAT JOB!

My post 0%... THX!

Supporting spam, and not the real work...

Nice post @sneak

I don't think he's spamming or trolling; I find that account hilarious. I've been a fan of Mike Judge's work for 25+ years.

Agree 100%

I appreciate the spirit of this post, and your intentions, but downvoting nettybot and buildawhale is wrong for these reasons:

  1. They provide a good service. Fact they get paid.
  2. They do not interject when uncalled for. This is not spamming.
  3. They do not beg or ask for donations or aggressively self promote.
  4. Is either randowhale or booster next? If so, do you know what will happen then? Do they deserve flagging less than nettybot and buildawhale do?
  5. You waste your voting power and time which could have been used for your own growth, or for fighting real spam, like padmakshi, emmakaur and other and harder to detect cases of spam, impersonation and abuse of sympathy.
Nettybot and buildawhale are not like these at all.

As an aside Ned delegated most of his SP to recruit spammers to steemit, see berniesanders' past posts.
Spam should be fought with vigor, but you do another thing.
I hope you unvote your flags against nettybot and buildawhale and think better the next time.

You flagged me at a post! and I am happy :)
Because you corrected me and mentioned my mistake. Thank you!

Yes, it's annoying. I will check out if they leave a link. But if they just ask for vote or follow, I will ignore it.
Actually, when I register steemit at the very beginning, I ask for the upvote and follow, too. I thought it's the rule here because so many people do the same thing. I think the newbies may make the mistake easily because they don't know what is not welcome here.

I'm going to do exact opposite, I'll flag every comment which is somehow individual and thoughtful, adding value.

Ha-ha!

No this isn't funny even as a joke :'(

I did this for a while, but it is time/energy consuming; I had a policy of leaving a comment along with the flag
remove the spam, and I will remove the flag

only about 25% of the spammers even gave a damn to remove the spam

·

of course, they wont remove it, they dont even read the replies, so yeah, dont feel bad! we cant just give away our precious steem money to people just trying to make money off spam!!!!
We cant feel bad or guilty! And sometimes we just feel bad for "hurting" the chances of some dvelopingw orlder making money but honestly we cant reward bad behaviour

we should do classical pavlovian conditioning experiments with conditioned stimuli, psychology experiments with steem, see if we can change behavior with operant conditioning too

That's right! I'm only wandering how many of those guys will beg here for upvoting! :))
