Could Steemit Be a Conduit For Local Giving? Could We Be A Fundraising Community ?

in #steemit8 years ago

I have fundraised and worked for charities for years and i'm really into social enterprise. Is it possible to set up an account purely to fundraise? Any ideas on how to do this? I know it sounds pretty simple really....just donate. But is there any examples or ways to do this ? Any legalities to be aware of?

I have wondered about this as well. With such a terrific group of people here on Steemit, and Blockchain technology, we may someday alleviate poverty.

Exactly.....and i'm wondering if there is a way of doing a "group" thing where people do free articles and donate their upvotes or if there is other ways, then people can bid for the charities, they want to support ??

I've been using my personal account for initiatives like #payitforward to help benefit the people of Steemit who need a boost. When it comes to fundraising for an organization, most of them require that you give them notice and get permission because you are using their name and fund-raising on their behalf. Before you begin an account or take one cent, be sure they know what you're doing or they will come after you. Secondly, do your research. Most national charities use more than half of their fund-raising monies for "administrative costs" and the effort for which they are being "charitable" receive pennies on the dollar.

Oh god yeah....i understand the administration charges. I managed a lottery fund for a while. I'm thinking for local on the ground initiatives, not just tied to one, so i am thinking more likely to develop funds on posts then distribute rather than on behalf of. If that makes sense?
