I just learned that voting power goes down the more you vote! Please help

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

It's sometimes a confusing journey for untechnical people like myself. I am an artist. Not a computer guy.

Anyway, I have been furiously upvoting as many awesome people as I can recently, largely through the assistance of my new bot friend... in preparation for the 'no work period' after the birth of my 2nd child any day now...

...and today @englishtchrivy kindly pointed out to me that my voting power was dangerously low at 14%.

As can be seen on: https://steemd.com/@samstonehill a site I was not even aware of!

So what exactly does this mean?

I would love to be clear on this one.

Steemvoter offers a total of 500 people who can be added to your upvote bot list, but what is the point in this if your voting power suddenly plummets?

Is there a 'safe' number of people to upvote per day if you are going to maintain your full voting power?

Hope someone can help me with these questions?

Many thanks

Your VP goes back up by around 20% everyday. So reduce your Vote weight or the number of people you vote or both to maintain it at a certain level. There are days when my VP drops to mid-60s but usually I'm able to keep it over 80% :) I prefer manually curating over the use of bots. If it's at 14% just slow down on your voting drastically and it'll come back up. At 14% it's no good to you or anyone you are voting other than just adding your name to the list of votes. :)

@firepower - plus manually curating assures you to upvote really good quality posts not with those blurry pics. This way, I can say am not doing those authors who are working hard putting out clear pics and good quality contents injustice.

@samstonehill, i suggest that you rest and get back to manual voting. It won't harm plus you'll get to meet new authors you could help, too once in a while. I hope you recover and stop voting now - you're actually hurting the post when you vote with lower VI. Try going back up to 70 you'll do better :)

Thanks for your help on this on. Still learning here :)

@samstonehill always glad to be of help. Good luck with regaining it. I also need to let mine recharge

Cheers ! another manual laborer :D aaand I'm already following you , time to read your blog again :)

If you didn't know voting power goes down, there might be other things you don't know. Cover all the bases with the Steemit Whitepaper! :)

Thanks very much for this. Am looking forward to watching it when I don't have a screaming baby on my lap :)

What's safe? I don't know. My power is hovering 50-60% almost daily.

the system allows for roughly 40 votes a day at 100%, if you are voting 80 times you'd need to drop your percentage to 50% or so. Your voting power will recover if you slow down the rate you are voting or just stop for a couple of days or so

This post has been ranked within the top 80 most undervalued posts in the first half of Jan 31. We estimate that this post is undervalued by $3.00 as compared to a scenario in which every voter had an equal say.

See the full rankings and details in The Daily Tribune: Jan 31 - Part I. You can also read about some of our methodology, data analysis and technical details in our initial post.

I'd estimate that I vote about 45-60 times a day, and maybe 80-100 votes on Sundays, with 81% voting weight. I vote on a few comments with 21% too... This keeps me around 80-90% as steemdb measures it. Though I have a rest period when I sleep and work, so it charges up a bit. (No bot for when I'm away.)

Ok...Im not too knowledgeable about this but I was told that you should post no more than 4 times per day and 100 votes per day... I use 1 bot and I'm a minnow and just learning here.... I use steemstats.com because it shows me my voting power on a daily basis... with my bot (which I'm testing out still) my voting power is over 82%

Join the club ;)
Am trying to vote posts at 80%. Comments at 51% as somebody said that before...
w/c i might try to upp both later as my VP is at 97-99%.
You can go higher if you vote less, that way your VP wont go down dramatically.
@englishtchrivy caught my attention as well..she got nothing better to do ;)

@immarojas lol, I usually return upvotes to those who upped me too but only if their posts are really good. I don't want to encourage complacency yes? How do I do that? I copy paste the author's name from Steemd.com to the search in Steemit but sometimes I tend to do that in a hurry I double clicked and it'll redirect to the author's Steemd.com's profile and that's how I see it. Why don't you try? :P

@immarojas - returning upvotes then you'll see it could happen to you.
Don't you return upvotes?

I vote on posts in my feed, not necessarily return my upvotes..even those who don't upvote mine ;) must i??

@immarojas - it's not a must but I do it because I want to be fair - those people who support us deserve to be supported, too ey? but I only do that if they put out good posts - clear pictures, sensible thoughts or at least if not - they are interactive to the community. We need to encourage each other ey? This is one way.

ok..let me see if i will have the time aside from my feeds.

You do this at how many votes per day !?

Ok great ! Apreciate the reply !👍😉

no problem..wish am more versed with all these stuff here in steemit ;)

Another important thing: if you upvote in the first second as post appears - you'll have nothing - all curation will go th the author. In 15 minutes - you get 50% of curation. 30 minutes and after - all 100% are yours. But if you vote after whale, you will not have a penny also. So if you see polular post, sometimes it is better to vote at 15 minutes and get 50% then in 30 after whales.

Thanks very much for this particular information. Great to know!

Nice tip. Thanks! I just learned about this 15 minutes thing right now.
