Every Link Needs to be Strong and When I Can Help, I Will Because That's the Steemian Way.
A few days ago, I met some new Steemians through general comments back and forth related to various tag topics. I found myself being the "older" Steemian with more Steemit experience and resulting advice to offer in the group.
I diplomatically and patriotically think that it's the duty of all of us, with some Steemit time under our belts, to offer a hand to new minnows as they arrive. I make a point to do this and I know a lot of other Steemians practice this too. In fact, @solarguy, @jpiper20 and @papa-pepper extended their hands to me when I first arrived and I'll never forget their support and generosity...because they didn't have to help me.
One new person, in particular, really stood out to me in the last 48 hours. His name is @arsenal49.
He joined the Steemit community in March of this year and he's just getting his feet wet and learning how the platform works.
Through general conversation, I discovered that he lives in Denmark and he intimately knew of an alternative lifestyle community named Christania. It turns out that this "free" community is located right in the heart of Copenhagen. I was pretty excited about this information once I learned about it (and vaguely recalled watching a documentary about it a few years back).
Here's a link to Rick Steves' Europe YouTube episode about Christania which was posted on Nov. 27, 2009:
I encouraged @arsenal49 to go to Christania and then write a blog post about it so that everyone on Steemit could either learn about Christania for the first time or remember it, if they've heard of it before.
Like an old mother, I cautioned @arsenal49 to only go and cover the story "if" he felt he could do this without putting himself in harm's way.
After our conversation, here's @arsenal49's post (from his perspective) as someone who has frequented Christania on numerous occasions:
He wasn't sure if he would do it or not and I just offhandedly suggested that he send me a message if he did and I would look for it and give it a read.
I guess he must have been really motivated by the idea because in less than 24 hours, he was able to post his article.
Here in lies the challenge.
Due to the fact that @arsenal49 is "new to Steemit", the tags he originally chose weren't the best and hardly anyone saw his work.
So, with my 8-month of Steemit experience...(yeah it's still a bit of the blind leading the blind) I let him know that he could change all but his first tag. This happened and it's made a little bit of difference in the number of people who have been able to see his post about the fantastic "free" life of the people of Christania.
If you are so inclined, please check-out @arsenal49's blog post. Then, upvote and follow him, if you like what you see.
It's always a good time to help each other and when we do, the bonds that link our Steemit community together, get stronger.

How did I miss this post. Aye Currumba. Thanks for the mention. I never doubted it was the right thing to do. Anytime.
You are well loved here @solarguy! I also happen to think that you deserve a lot of credit for your positive attitude but also your honesty in calling a "spade a spade" when you see it and experience it.
Not once have you ever steered me wrong and I am grateful to be able to call you one of my very first friends on Steemit. You're part of my history. ;)
Thanks for pointing out this post @rebeccaryan Otherwise I never would have seen @arsenal49 's post that was very intriguing. How do you figure out which tags are best to add to your posts?
That's a very good question @brevebronovan! Thanks for commenting and asking it. It's such a good question that I think I'll write a post about it so that we can start a Steemit community discussion about it. I'll share what I do and maybe we can attract some other Steemians and entice them to share their "tag deciding" strategies, too. ;)
sounds great, I will be on the lookout for that post
I'm working on it...I have also followed you @brevebronovan. ;)
Thanks @rebeccaryan, I'm now following you as well!
Here's the link to the post. I have given you a shout-out in it. ;)
Thanks for lighting a fire under my butt. lol!

Awesome, that's exactly the kind of advice I've been looking for, will read it right now
good job supporting @rebeccaryan! yes, it's so important.
Thank you @natureofbeing! I know that those of us who have been on the platform for more than 3 months are routinely helping new people when we find them. It's so hard to see good material go unnoticed...many of us have been there painfully with our own creatives.
Yes I completely agree! When I joined in August I was floundering even though rewards were high, I just had no clue what I was doing.
Me too @natureofbeing! 3 days after I joined the platform, @dollarvigilante arrived with his posse and scored a $15,000 post pay-out. To date, the highest I was ever able to achieve with my original content is $93. I have a personal goal set to at least achieve $100 per post and make it to the trending page, just once in my Steemit lifetime. Is that too much to ask? I personally think, not. It just means that I have to keep changing up what I am doing and working on growing my truly active followers...I think. lol!
You're posts are of excellent quality, you should be there shortly I think! I especially loved your stories of your spiritual endeavors like with the Shaman, but you have good wit and interesting point of view. I'll see if I can resteem more for you to help although my payouts are so ridiculously low at this point! My first post in Aug was over 3K and now I"m lucky to have $10. Anyway, glad to be here regardless and don't want sound ungrateful.
That is an incredibly huge compliment @natureofbeing! Thank you so much! It's good for all of us to be reminded that regardless of what posts payout...we are lucky to have found out about Steemit very early on.
Way to go on the 3K post last Aug...I think you are the only person that I know, who was awarded one that large, so far. I agree, I think an average pay-out these days ranges from $10-$25.
yay
Oh..by the way.
We're steamers...steemian is just TOO wimpy.
I told pepper that too.
OK, first let me say that I never do this and before you read me the riot act for making an inappropriate decision (which you are totally entitled to do) I want to let you know that I put my money where my mouth is.

Gave you a shout-out, too. LMAO
Hahaha! I'll change my ways @everittdmickey! I will not promote wimpy. Lol
Good on you, thanks for sharing this;)
Thanks for reading and taking a minute to comment @da-dawn!
We'll all get there, we just have to work together. :)
Wow! Just wow! I can't put in words how grateful I am. This is amazing. Thank you so much for the nice words about me, and you are one of the reason I have such a great time here. Thank you very much! Christania is a very special place for me as we go way back. I encourage everybody to go if you ever come to Denmark. It is magical, especially at summer time :) Once again thanks!
You are most welcome. I hope it will help you to build your followers. You actually are doing really well with your posts as a new steemer. Do you happen to know how many followers you had at the beginning of the day today?
My sense is that this really hasn't driven more people to your Christania post, like I had hoped it would, but it might grow more followers for you or help the posts you've made since...(This was a wee bit of an experiment on my part to see if we could drive traffic to you.) At any rate, "Welcome to Steemit", my friend. I will definately place Denmark and Christania on my travel list. ;)
Strengthening the steemit community with helpful consideration equals leadership by example. Hat tip, @rebeccaryan
Thanks for your kind words @bilbop! It's just so tough to see good content, go unnoticed. I know how hard everyone is working to do a good job and we all have to keep going and adjusting our strategy to find what works for each of us.
It's pieces like this that make me so glad to be part of this community. Really glad I came across you, who has been helpful and providing a fresh perspective. It also led me to come across @solarguy who also has provided helpful insight for a new Steemer such as myself. I live in the states but I am curious about Christiania and will check it out. Thank you and all other Steemers who genuinely want to help and grow this community of intellectuals.
That's such a nice thing to say @whotiewho! Thank you for your kindness. :)
With so much negativity on other social platforms like Facebook and being a positive minded person, I feel more at home and myself here than I ever did on Facebook. So, thank you and the Steemit community. :)
@whotiewho, I know that there are many of us who feel the exact same way and are very grateful to have found a "better social media fit". In my opinion, I see a lot of people doing and writing about real life things that have value to others. I learn so much on Steemit everyday, from other people and places all over the world that I would normally never have the opportunity to be exposed to. It's magical.
