@OriginalWorks Mention Bot
@OriginalWorks Mention Bot FAQ
The previous FAQ is a bit outdated, so I thought it was time for a new one.
What is @OriginalWorks Mention Bot?
The @OriginalWorks Mention Bot is able to analyze content to determine whether it is original or not. It is activated by users, and it rewards the user as well as the writer of the original content.
How to activate @OriginalWorks Mention Bot?
It's very simple!
Just reply to any post with "!originalworks" or "@originalworks" in the message body.
Here is an example:
@rishi2184 activated @originalworks by mentioning it in his reply to the post by @thatindianlady. The bot checked to make sure that the material written by @thatindianlady is original, and then upvoted the posted by @thatindianlady. Also, @rishi2184 got an upvote for activating the bot.
What is the purpose of @OriginalWorks Mention Bot?
@OriginalWorks is designed to help promote and curate good original content. If you see content that you like, activate the bot. As long as the content is original, it will get upvoted. In the future, extra features will be added to curate the work further. There is a big upcoming implementation which is currently in the works.
Voting Power
@OriginalWorks currently has over 600 SP. Please delegate or donate to help support the bot and make it a more meaningful curator of original content. In the next implementation, the bot will award the top original works with rewards!
Great idea!
A new tool to check if the world is original, I like that!
I will try It soon!
Thanks @dexpartacus !
You are welocome! @unprovoked
How did it work out for you?
It work really good! 😉
This world is a copy. In the original, it's Berenstein Bears, not BerenSTAIN Bears.
It is a great tool for minnows and great for all users to see a stamp of approval. I don't want to support stuff lifted from the internet and reposted here. We need more original content to add value to the platform. It will benefit everyone.
I agree @otage. This whole eco-system would benefit from original content. This is exactly why I want to curate and promote original material. There are already services like curie that do this, but I think there could always be more. I hope Steemit thrives on amazing user generated content.
Unless it gets some alternate bots to allow it to rest, it is going the way of steemitboard and randowhale.

Do you plan on making it available when tagging it in a post ? (not in the comments)
No, I do not want it to be called in the case that it is simply being discussed rather then called.
You can always reply to your own post to activate it, that works perfectly fine!
Ok, that's fine. Thanks for the quick answer !
The question I asked above it answered here, Thanks.
May not see this, but in one of these threads someone suggested that the bot checks the tags of post for "originalcontent". Have you given any thought to a feature like that?
I did see the suggestion but I didn't really understand it.
The bot can be used in any tag, why would I limit it to that one?
My bad, I didnt mean for it to only be used in that tag, but to use the tag as a way for posters to activate the bot without having to leave a direct comment on their own post.
There is now an 'OriginalWorks' tag, I might make it so that the bot automatically activates on those.
By tag I thought you guys meant mention in the body message of the main post, I understand that you guys meant category now.
Sorry for the confusion there.
Thanks you @originalworks for the detailed explanation of what this bot does.
Does it reward equally to the user and the writer of the content ?
The user gets about half the reward that the poster does. However, in future updates, once we have a curation going, the user who activates the bot on the winning work would get a portion of the prize money as well.
Does it still work if it is the author's original work, but not original to Steemit?
This is a hit and miss.
It depends on how popular the original work was. If it is rampant on the internet, then it will assume it is plagiarized. If it is a blog post with a few views it should still consider it original. The algorithm is not too punishing in terms of that.
Overall there is no good way for the bot to identify whether the author is the same person.
