Steemit Feature Requests: "Selective Resteem" and "Turn Off Resteems From This User"

Have you ever wanted to resteem a great article, but shied away because you know a good portion of your followers might not care? Nobody wants to lose followers because of resteeming, but I'm sure that I've missed articles I would have liked because someone failed to pull the trigger.

Allowing a "Selective Resteem" option would give us the capability of selecting exactly which of our followers would receive the resteem in their feed. For example, if I find a fantastic sports article that hasn't got much attention, I could resteem that to @sevinwilson and @lydon.sipe, two of my followers that I know enjoy sports.

My other 200+ followers who may not enjoy sports as much would be none the wiser. I didn't share the article with as many people, but it probably had a net positive effect, other than taking me a couple seconds longer to perform.

Perhaps supplanting this idea or working in conjunction with it, we could also steal a feature from that 140-character service with the bird. If someone there gets a bit too excited with the retweets, you can simply check the "Turn off Retweets" option without unfollowing them altogether.

Adding a "Turn off Resteems" button next to the "Follow" and "Mute" options in their profile might be enough to encourage people to share more articles, knowing that if they are being too annoying that their followers can just turn off that feature.

Am I missing any downsides to either of these two potential features?

nope...

I resteem what I like...if someone else doesn't like it.
too bad...so sad.
THAT said
you raise a good point.
ReSteem has gotten to be a form of spam.
Something should be done to manage it.
Your idea has merit.

Resteems - the single worst implemented feature on steemit.

Plz fix.

Good call.Perhaps a re-steem to specific topics? (i.e.: #sports #football etc.)?

If this could be made to work it might be more flexible than the socnets that use lists/circles for specialised resharing :)

Well, you got me there! Showing my ignorance with all things social networking, I have no clue what you're talking about! (heh-heh...) I suspect you're referring to what Goog does with its "circles" right? If so, I agree. This would give you the ability to tailor your re-streems to specific groups &/or individuals you believe would want to see that content. Know any Steemit developers who might take this and run with it?

Yep pretty much what Goog does with circles, although from memory if you post something to a circle it will post it "privately" so only those people in the circle can see it whereas with this thing as far as I can tell everything is public all the way and the request seems to be to just notify certain people rather than make sure only certain people can see it (unless I'm mistaken).

I don't know if I know any steemit devs specifically, haven't been here that long in the grand scheme XD

Me neither. Perhaps we need a "topic" for #development or #steemitenhancements? Yours would be a great idea for the community!

I didn't have an idea, I just expanded on the existing ones XD

LIKE THE IDEA! I have already noticed a number of my followers with varied other interest and have gotten to know them. I post about off grid homesteading and I know that some of my followers are not really into the tech that makes Steem or Bitcoin work. Some have other interests like homeschooling or just gardening. I won't want them to be upset if I resteem things that are not in their interest. Great idea!

I can't get over the fact, that I created that resteem logo and coined the word and only got 0.07$ for my post back then.
Not to mention the mostly negative feedback :D

Great idea.... resteemed !!🙊🙊

I like the idea of turn off resteems. I resteemed a few articles that I liked recently because I was brand new. I didn't know they would show up in my blog. There should be a different blog page or something under each user for resteems. I don't know... I was hoping I could find a way to turn the resteem off to get it out of my blog posts, but I haven't figured out how.

Instead have a button next to the Follow Button that says "Follow Resteems" ;) and if someone is doing too many resteems his followers can simply unfollow resteems rather than unfollow the user.

But, I like the current structure and I dont believe any updates required. Better to push people to earn from posting and liking, commenting, than to earn via resteems.

I resteem when i see it interesting and wanted to share it others.. Thats all
