I Have the Perfect Plan to Grow the Steemit User Base!

Do Awesome Stuff.

That's it! It's fool proof! Who can argue with this?

Joking aside, I was quite surprised yesterday to see over 270 likes, loves, and wows on my Facebook post in less than a day:

I know paying off the house is a big deal, but dang... I don't think we got that many likes bringing a child into the world. :)

I think people really connected with our story because it represents something so many people want: financial freedom. It's also a story that gives them hope, something they can see themselves accomplishing. Not only that, and I don't want this to come off the wrong way, but it's a pretty awesome thing! Not many people pay off their house. Most people just go through life, working for the Banksters and the State, without actually saving and investing for themselves.

It's an awesome thing which gained attention. Here's the cool part:

Multiple friends of mine joined Steemit after reading my post.

I've brought many friends over to Steemit over the last 7 months, but most of them lose interest over time or they lose their passwords and can't access their account anymore (I know of at least 3 who did this, one just created a new account). I've been posting things non-stop and sharing them on Facebook and Twitter, but it was this post that finally pushed some people over the edge to create an account.

You are all a part of that! Voting up, commenting, resteeming, and sharing in our excitement... Now that's a pretty compelling community other people want to be a part of! For that, Thank You So Much!

Going beyond just being your awesome selves, I think there is a key lesson to be learned here. We're not going to attract crowds of people just by spitting out more blog posts. We also have to actually do something worth writing about. Something amazing, interesting, and/or awesome. The problem with that approach is it's often really, really hard. Sometimes it takes years of hard work. It's not a quick fix.

But it does work. It does get people interested in this little corner of the Internet we call Steemit.

So that's my encouragement to you. Go out and do something amazing! Then come here, write about it, and share it with the world.

Over time, I think we've got a good chance of building something really special here. Thanks for being part of that journey with me.

I am with you! I am absolutely in love with steemit. I am a recording artist and have been on the scene online for about 8 years. I have had some success stories and some flops, and using steemit to share about this with fans and start actually making some profits on my posts has been drawing people into steemit. I want to see this succeed. We can all work together to bring the masses in. I like what you said " Go and do something amazing, then come here and write about it" thats exactly what I want to do. Steem on my friend. new follower and upvote here

Excellent! Thank you you.

We've got a pretty amazing, creative group of early adopters here. I'm quite excited about that.

Fully agreed!

I'm especially excited about opportunities with the Open Mic project started by @luzcypher. They've got some incredible talent that could really help draw a crowd!

As I've mentioned elsewhere, I've had great success with promoting Pro-Steemit / Steemit content (though often not links directly to the site) on Reddit. If you're on there I would suggest you try finding a suitable subreddit to link your stuff in and that way bring more traffic to the site!

Also, please consider supporting/chiming in on the project I just recently post about.

I also shared it on my Facebook. We also Tweeted it with the @Steemit account. The biggest thing that matters to me as the social media guy is the traffic. Your numbers don't lie!! I had 17 likes on your post when I shared to my FB wall.

The other day a meme of Trump went viral for me on FB with over 2o shares. It also generated 1300 views on Steemit because I included the link. I believe we have good content here but people are not leveraging social like they should.

Nice! That's great to hear. Yeah, I share my stuff regularly. There really is so much good content here. Lately, when I'm interested in a topic, I first search steemit for it because more often than not, many great articles have already been written right here.

Awesome to hear hilarski. I think you and Luke have been spot on!

I personally often pick out the best Steem related content / content I can find on Steemit and post it to different subreddits that I think will be particularily interested. I've had hundreds of clicks on that content alone.

Recently I posted a quasi-political meme I found in a comment doing something funny with the Obama logo and making it into a Trump logo. I got incredibly lucky on that one. The meme saw over 17 thousand upvotes! At some point I made a comment on it, telling everyone that I had found it on Steemit.com. That comment has over 70 votes so far.

I think knowing which user base to reach out to with a particular type of "viral" content is the most important part.

Also, please consider having a look at my current project that I posted about yesterday.

Nice.

I will do something great and get offline now with my headaches. I decided to make this the last post I read before bed in a bit.

Congrats again. Remain....

STOKED.

Always stoked! :)

That, and people should really appreciate other people's accomplishments more, instead of just focusing on promoting their own haha! Perhaps if commenting and resteeming were rewarded more, then interaction would be encouraged :D

A great point! I've been trying to hammer on that one for some time.

Please consider checking out and spreading the message about our efforts to vote Steem onto another exchange!

Great way to bring more onto the platform by sharing things. Well done on the house too! Following for great content and a great attitude :)

Thank you so much! :)

Great post! I'm glad you have been successful at recruiting new users to Steemit. My attempts have failed so far, but I will try again when the time is right.

Recently I posted a quasi-political meme I found in a comment doing something funny with the Obama logo and making it into a Trump logo. That meme had over 17 thousand upvotes and it's actually still climbing, albeit slowly. At some point I made a comment on the meme, telling everyone that I had found it on Steemit.com. That comment got over 70 votes.

Sounds good. Followed!

Great, this is what I'd like to see more of. Linking content to the outside that they want to read. Not dragging a bunch of people onto the website kicking and screaming, or simply shouting from the rooftops how great Steem is.

Please also consider checking out my update post on an ongoing effort to get the get STEEM onto newly started exchange. We only need 50 more votes, so we should be able to do it!

a lot of people these days are also priced out of the market in buying a home so it's great to see someone like yourself be able to succeed and pay it off! again congrats!

Great article. Well written!
