I have no idea if this is relevant, but happy to share with you.
I had something go wrong with my account last week, with no recourse.
My master password just stopped working.
Steemit never tried to resolve the issue.
(my account was less than a hundred dollars, so hardly big news.)
What I DO know, is that i never changed anything, and everything was working fine for 3 weeks. (and yes i kept hand written copies of it - 2 actually- and they matched my master.
Something went wrong, and nothing was done about it.

Steemit does not provide support for accounts. Either someone obtained and then changed your password, you are transcribing it incorrectly, or the computer system you are using to access steemit is somehow damaged or compromised.
I encourage you to use a password manager and the latest stable version of the Chrome browser. For maximum security, use an iPad or a Chromebook.
no one obtained and changed my password - in the real world anyway.
(Oh, and someone with more knowledge than me, has checked the blockchain, and it shows no change of password...?)
my transcribing it correctly ?- 3 weeks without an error in log in(every day, multiple times some days) - 2 handwritten copies that match up perfectly. re written and tried again. - no.
Have other steemit account that is working fine.
Compromised?- I don't know. - from a steemit user while online you mean?
I do know I have never had any other security issues in 10 years.
I have Steemit friend who also lost access to his account. Not likely it was hacked as there has been no withdrawing ever. He is not techno talented like so many more,he is an artist who just logs in and posts. He never changed his PW either. Weird. what ever else you got brain storming I'd like to give it a try.
...and I have found another - exactly the same thing - no change of password etc.
If this was happening on a large scale - that's an enormous amount of steem locked in (good for value of the company)
My account was around 50 dollars, i think ( it bought some steempower just before)
Imagine if it was a 1000 accounts a month, with that amount of money? - I'm sure many would just give up. That's a lot of stored value.
I'm as technologically talented as your average retarded rock.
But if you have any ideas...?
