Steemit Flagging Abuse

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

Well known local bully today flagged my post without reason whatsoever. It's a chance to discuss possible ways of preventing abuse of rich rampant fools that find fun in flagging…

You may have also been a victim of a Stemit bully that goes by the name of @grumpycat. He has a considerable power and abuses it by random flagging of posts like in theis case. He also abuse his power draining the reward pool by self-voting own comments. So, what can be done against him?

It seems that @steemcleaners does not cover the “flagging abuse” category. And even if they did, it is not clear what could they do against the bullies with such SP.

Is there any other service that could resolve this problem? If only those with more steem power can bring “grumpycats” to reason, then we are left with the appeals to the Steemit leaders with the most steem power to police the abuse. That would put pretty heavy burden to a few administrators of the system and @ned & @dan, which means it can't be a true solution.

So, I would like to hear your opinion: Are we left to the law of jungle here at Steemit, or we can come to some creative solution to this problem of abuse? Any suggestions? May I start with a proposal of rethinking the flagging system?

And BTW, if you want to know who has flagged you, you can find it through this page.

IMHO we are facing the age-old problem which arises whenever humans interact. You either have no laws, or the law of the jungle where the big ones kill the less powerful or you start to establish laws and regulations which will always be abused by some. There will always be one asshole who finds a loophole for his benefits. Closing the loopholes will cause a slippery slope, a never ending story. We are caught between a rock and a hard place. Finding a working solution will be difficult. It's sad. The world could be such a nice place if people would use more common sense and decency. But personally I'd rather get rid of the whole flagging thing all-together. I'd rather live with spam and opinions I don't agree with...

Yes, creative solutions are being developed. @duplibot, @littleboy's Steem moderation project,@steemflagrewards and @flagawhale to name a few.

The latter two place an emphasis on incentivized flagging and moderation activity for all Steem users.

It is a problem that there is not a clear cut avenue for reporting some categories of abuse such as bid bot abuse and collusive voting.

We hope to be an effective part of the effort to bridge that gap. Here is an example of our latest activity. You are getting a special sneak peak as I planned on posting more extensively later.

Ultimately, Steem needs WAY more moderation to remain a viable social media blockchain that isn't completed inundated by spam. We don't have a central authority for doing this sort of thing so believe it is contingent on the community to step up and address abuse in a decentralized fashion.
