Why your blog posts got missing and what you can do to avoid it
)
Creating a blog post on steemit is not an easy venture as most bloggers put in a lot of long hours writing and editing to perfection. However, it is very frustrating after investing long hours on a post, publish it successfully and later find out your post and also in some cases comments is missing.
As they usually say from where I come from, "once the eye is crying, the nose cries too" as such, this issue affects all steemians and already, many steemians including witnesses are on it to ensure we have a hitch free blogging experience which goes to show that this is one big family…
Interestingly, this issue of missing comment and even resteem that never got through was confirmed by @kid4life in his post “BE CAREFUL ಠ_ಠ STEEMIT IS ACTING FUNNY” However, we are not alone in this issue as some established steemians do experience similar problems like @ura-soul posted some few months ago on "My Post to Steemit Went MISSING After I Posted it" Also, @dragosroua posted on "Help! My Steemit Post / Comment Disappeared!"
From what I understood from @dragosroua (an excellent witness & a great guy) being aware of how the entire eco system works will help us in understanding why such things happen and where your post might have gone to... it should be noted that whatever we do in steemit eco system from your upvotes/downvotes, to comments/posts to transfers etc is a transaction and like in a traditional website with their centralized system, these transaction are not saved in a central database as they are decentralized. Therefore, if you have connection issues before the transaction got published, or your transaction was not properly signed so it got rejected you are bound to have a missing post. The most important part is when a witness that is assigned to pick up your transaction was not working at that moment, then your post might not make it to the next block...This goes to show that witnesses are very vital to ensuring your posts get to the block chain, as such we should be mindful of the caliber of witnesses we vote for…(check out @dragosroua post above for more on the duties of a witness in that regard)
Furthermore, another excellent witness who wrote on same issues recently with his own additional suggestion is @zeartul (great steemian...very active and innovative)... see post here... Steemit is still having issues, time for a private Node! zeartul style. @zeartul highlighted on issues related to DDoS attacks and overloads leading to failure of nodes and suggested setting up a full blown Node server so as to assist in taking off some excess load on steem and steemit improving in all the functions and thankfully, @zeartul is already in contact with another great steemian @someguy123 so as to get the Node up and running in a week time.. (Great guys...can’t stop admiring our active witnesses).
From the above, we have some good insights on what might have gone wrong, as such we need to secure ourselfs including those who might not have experienced missing posts yet. As we usually say from where I come from, " if a frog in front falls into a pit, others behind takes caution" therefore, we need to ensure we form the habit of saving our work before we publish them to the block chain... Little wonder @timcliff also posted on same issue in his blog post titled "Attention Steemains - Save your posts before clicking the submit button!" where he advised us to ensure we save a copy of our post before posting in a text editor like notepad so as to have a backup copy.
Finally, to ensure your post does not get missing due to any of the above mentioned issues, ensure…
A copy of your work is saved in notepad or any other text editor before posting.
Before you publish your post, go to the top right side of your post, right click and “open in new window” so as to have a duplicate copy.
After posting, ensure you allow 30 seconds before checking the block chain by refreshing the page to ensure it’s received. Alternatively, you can go to https://steemd.com/@youraccountname to check, and if not found, you can then rebroadcast your post...
You can use alternative sites if you finding it difficult to access steemit. Sites like busy.org, chainbb & eSteem can be a useful alternative to post, comment, upvote and resteem your favorite blog posts.

Safety first!
I tend to work on my docs in good old notepad, and if there is some styling to be done, I'll do this in the UI, and copy it back over to Notepad when I'm done.
This means I have templates, and a backup should the Post button dessert me.
Cheers!
Asher
Sure @abh12345 that's my style too

True talk. Am also a victim of not saving work. Thanks for you write up.
