How to Maximize Your Curation Rewards on Steemit as a Minnow

Minnow curation hack.png

OK, so you're a minnow and you want to know how to maximize your curation rewards on Steemit? Well, you're in luck because today I'm going to show you the easiest way to curate content that will pop.

But first, you'll need to understand the sweet spot, for maximizing any curation rewards.

For the first 30 minutes after a post is published, any votes you make are weighted towards the author, and this is a sliding scale so voting after a few minutes will net you almost zero rewards.

Whereas voting closer to the 30-minute mark will earn you more.

And any time after 30-minutes all curation rewards are fully distributed to the curators.
(It's an Author 75% - 25% Curator split)

But everyone knows this, so it's really a race to get in front of the crowd.

That's why people sometimes vote after the 20-minute mark because they want to get ahead of any large incoming whale votes and are willing to sacrifice a few extra reward percent to the author, in return for being ahead of the queue.

However, this only works for really popular posts that might attract the whales and often they take a long time to find. Now multiply that by 10 times a day and you've wasted a lot of time for little reward.

But there is an easier way.

How to Maximize your Curation Rewards on Steemit as a Minnow

As a minnow, your time is best spent authoring content rather than trying to make a few cents on curation rewards. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't vote.

You just need to find a full proof way of maximizing your rewards.

And here it is...

Spend more time in the #Utopian-io tag.

But rather than just looking at the trending posts, click 'New' and check out what's just been published.

Utopian.io command 3,644,275 SP which at the time of writing this post is worth over $600 and they aren't afraid to use it.

And here's the best part.

They actually tell you before they're going to vote, which gives you plenty of time to lay down those curation votes before a whale account rolls on in.

Woohoo!

But don't just aimlessly vote for any post, look for the ones that have a few comments and check them out, because they need to have the magic words you're looking for.

Thank you for the contribution. It has been approved.

And this means sometime later (up to a few days), the Utopian-io bot whale account will upvote that post with a decent sized vote. And the highest vote value is usually reserved for the Development Category.

Here's a Utopian.io post I recently added for BlockDeals.

blockdeals post.PNG

It has a Score of 85, which means it's due for a $100+ upvote when the next round of voting happens.

But if you get your vote in before the bot, you'll be maximizing your curation rewards and supporting developers who improve the Open Source Community.

Now find another 'Approved' post, then rinse and repeat.

And if you want to ensure you're maximizing your rewards further, log into Utopian.io with your Steem account and actually look for low value 'Approved' posts in the development category as these usually have the highest incoming vote value.

Here's a list of contribution categories Utopian.io use, starting with the highest vote value category and ending with the lowest vote value category. (subject to change)

  • Development (highest vote)
  • Analysis
  • Documentation
  • Video Tutorials
  • Translations
  • Graphics
  • Tutorials
  • Blog Post
  • Visibility
  • Bug Hunting
  • Suggestions (lowest vote)

But here's another tip.

Just follow the @blockdeals account and look out for our update posts.

We'll be using Utopian.io exclusively for community correspondence and will be mainly posting in the 'Development' category as we're rolling out changes on a daily basis.

We'll be making at least weekly posts, that have significant upvote potential so don't forget to vote, before the whale account does.

And remember to always look for the Utopian.io moderators comment that looks like this

Of course, there are a number of moderators working within Utopian.io, but if you spend a little time learning who they are you can always follow them to ensure their comments are in your feed.

I hope this little curation rewards hack showing you 'How to Maximize your Curation Rewards on Steemit' as a minnow will help you to squeeze a little extra from your Steem Minnow account and eventually help you to get to the next level.

Good tips! Thanks.

I was going to add the curie trail, but wasn't sure your vote would be submitted a decent amount of time before the curie vote powers on through.

It's a trail so it follows Curie's vote.

OK, it looks like you've just missed out on our chunky upvote this week, but there is always next week or other developers that need your support.

Thanks for the post, I have been struggling to understand curation methods. This really helped.

As a minnow there isn't a lot of value in curation, so you either follow a strategy like this or just upvote people's comments to get their attention.

This is actually really cool. I haven't had much to do with utopian, so didn't see the frontrunning opportunity.
Thanks mate :)

Yep and now you have a solid team to vote for :-)
