What makes people stay on the Steemit platform?

Since I started Steeming in September, I have done quite a few posts.  Some did well, and some not so well....BUT I really put in effort with my posts and even if I don't earn anything, I still know that there are some people out there who reads something valuable that they can use to make their lives better.  My posts are mostly about personal experiences and I like to bring in some positive aspects in to  every post.

Ever since I started I have felt that I was part of the community and it seems like everyone have fairly the same idea.  We are all working hard to make Steemit a better platform and many of us are here for the long run.  Not so much for the money but it helps a little....

I have read many posts about people leaving Steemit, because they feel undervalued and unappreciated.  I have also seen many wonderful posts with no payout.  Blah blah blah....and I know that you need a whale vote to actually get somewhere, but I still don't understand why that should necessarily be true.

Even though people don't make money on their posts, they keep on writing... it's like we all believe that something big is going to happen. (Which I'm sure it will at some point when the platform is totally up and running.)

BUT it is very hard to get noticed.  Good content doesn't always make it, and that is not fair.  If I could give my view about the platform and to make some changes then this would be what I have to say....

1.  Take away resteem/open a new tab for resteem.

If I want to read new posts or trending posts I go to the trending or new tab.  Why not make a resteem tab where all resteemed posts can go? There are people that resteem everything, and I find it hard to find my own posts under my feed.  I have even stopped following some people because they keep on resteeming! I find it very annoying.

2.  Upvote the people that you follow!

Why would anyone follow anyone if they do not upvote them?  Follow less people, and upvote more.  There is surely a reason why you follow someone? If you are too busy then get a bot to do your upvotes.  This should give you more time to actually find better content and help other people get noticed.  Try steemvoter.com This is a great app to use and if you trust someone to write proper content then why not use it?

3.  Steemit chat does not always make sense to me.

We should create one room where we can promote our posts.  At this stage there are so many rooms and not many people go into all the rooms.  Why not have only ONE proper room to promote posts?  If people are to lazy to go and find good content then they could find better posts there.

Well, these are the only things that really irritate me on Steemit.  I love writing and I will stick to writing my daily posts because I enjoy it.

Don't only think about yourself.  Think about others too!  Have a great day and keep on Steeming!

hey @giantbear,
I went ahead and built a chrome extension that functions as a resteem tab! Take a look, and let me know what you think.

BUT it is very hard to get noticed.

I'm not trying to 'get noticed' as I assume you meant 'being noticed by the whales'
I just write because I want to engage people. Steemcash doesn't really excite me.

I assume you can look at it that way, but most people just upvote and don't even comment. For me a comment is just as important as an upvote. I don't really care about whale upvotes either, but it sure helps to get noticed by the community. What upsets me is that some posts with only one picture gets many upvotes and then some good posts are not even noticed sometimes. Everyone goes on about creative and original content, but why waste time then? If you can get upvotes with one picture, why bother putting in effort? Surely the platform means different things to different people, and some are just here for the money, but some people just want to be noticed and awarded for what they are doing. I feel good when I get many upvotes because then it means that there are lots of people that shared my view....but that's just me... thanks for your comment btw :)

That's why I try to forget about any rewards or incentives and just write :) They'll either like it or not like it

I hear you... but I want people to like it! LOL!

Steemit users' posts are like a Pop Album, you have 2 or 3 money making hits and a bunch of duds

Great post and very interesting points . I made a post not quite on the same issues but why some posts seem to earn and other don't. Up-voted and now following

Thank you @ianstrat it is extremely frustrating. For one, if I saw your post, I would not have done similar. It's like everything just vanishes.... maybe there are too many people here LOL!

To be honest I hardly post that annoys me. You have raised some very good points especially the chat room one. For me the annoyance with Steemit is the platform itself. I have some experience of HTML but I find the platform itself is a bit "clunky" and not too easy to navigate. I believe that if Steemit is to really push itself out into the wider world it should look at the navigation structure of its site and make it easier for people to write excellent posts. I failed miserably on my introduction because I was never told, or maybe saw how to post into the correct section. I see now they have now put a nice handy tip on how to do it but if your average social media user comes here would they know what a "Tag" is? Just my thoughts...

It is totally true what you are saying, however, everything is far better now from when I started. Feels like I have been here for years now and it's been 2 and a half months. I still don't understand much but figuring it out as I go along. I did the same pathetic job with my introduction so maybe you should make a new introduction post? I am also planning a new introduction post soon. Good luck and thank you for the comment!
