Handy advice for your success on Steemit

In this article I want to share advice for people who are new to Steemit but even advanced users might find some handy tricks.

STEEM AND STEEM BACKED DOLLARS (SBD)

When you set your rewards for an article, you can decide between powering up 100% and 50%/50%. If you power up 100%, all of your rewards will be transferred to you as STEEM POWER. This will result in a little Steemit logo next to your post.

@gsari this might be interesting for you :)

It will signalise to people, that you are believing in the value of STEEM and you are likely to hold it longterm which some people will appreciate and you might get a little bit more of support.

50/50 will split your rewards in STEEM and SBD. SBD was originally designed to be a token which is worth around 1$ of STEEM.

BUT! SBD is currently trading at 11$(!!)

This means at the very time it is a really, really bad idea to set your rewards to 100% Power Up since you can get way more out of your SBD!

@papa-pepper explained it really well in this article.

You can trade SBD to STEEM on the Steemit market, almost in real time.

FORMATTING

Making your post visually appealing is absolutely crucial on Steemit. Here you can find an excellent article by @jonrhythmic which explains really well the basics on using HTML markup.

I have a few tips to add.

Use this line:

It is a easy way to structure your posts and make them look more "professional"
Choose an empty row, type in "---" this will get you the fine line you can see above.

If you want to center text or images, use < center >Image source or Text< /center >. There are no spaces between "<" and "center", take them out if you use this command.

For my posts, I am using StackEdit, it is a really well done online application which makes it a lot easier to write your post since all of the windows are bigger than in Steemit. I highly recommend to check it out. The overview is just better and you can easily archive your posts and use them again later on.

This is what it looks like:

The next big thing is to get your pictures right. What you have to keep in mind, is that if you fill a post with a lot of high resolution pictures, for some people it will take really long to load them all, resulting in less attention for your post.

I am using FastImageResizer, it is a little program which enables me to easily change the size of multiple pictures. A handy tool and it is free.

The first picture of your post will be displayed as the thumbnail of your post, the best ratio is 800x480 pixels, as explained in this article by @cryptos.

The perfect size for the banner of your Steemit Account is 1354x155 pixel. @rorxco explained it here.

VOTING BOTS

There are accounts on Steemit which enable you to invest some SBD and they will upvote your content with a powerful vote, resulting in more exposure of your article.

You are most likely to get your initial investment back.

I am currently using @upme and @buildawhale, both work great.

MINNOW SUPPORT PROJECT

@minnowsupport is a awesome initiative which helps minnows to get started on Steemit. There are a lot of friendly and helpful people on their Discord Channel. They have a voting bot to boost your articles which basically is free. Join the guys and get some insights on how Steemit is working!

INTERESTING STUFF

@steemrocket, did a interesting analysis on when the best time to post is. Here he explains why.

The article is already over a year old and I do not know how relevant this data is today, still it is a interesting thing to consider.

So this is it, I hope I could help some people out!

Thanks for this!

You are welcome, hope I could help a little :)

Your post is very informative to me as a newcomer. I really like it very much. I don't have much voting power at the moment but I like to resteem your post as it is good for newcomers. Do you mind if I resteem it?

Wonderful that this post reached the right people! Of course, no need to ask, would be kind of you to resteem it.

I have resteemed. Hopefully it is rewarding to you as well as others!
