Toy Review: Bandai 006 Star Wars Millennium Falcon

Another Bandai Star Wars model in my collection is one of the most popular spaceships in American science fiction: the Millennium Falcon. Appearing in the original trilogy and the first film of the sequel trilogy (Ep. VII: The Force Awakens), this was the ship of Harrison Ford's Han Solo, which was later owned by Rey at the conclusion of The Force Awakens. Classified in canon as a YT-1300 light freighter, she led the Rebel Alliance in their insurrection against the mighty Galactic Empire.

The model is not to scale with respect to the other Star Wars models of this series, though it is roughly the same length as the others. Before assembly, the model pieces are all clean so if you prefer to make this model screen accurate, you're gonna have to devote some time for this model in making her look dirty and weathered.

After I snapped off the pieces from the frame, I used a pencil to mark the panel lines of the Falcon's hull and shaded some parts to simulate weathering and impact and scorch marks. It easier to do it this way, as shading the parts after assembly may be difficult, especially if you want to get through those hard-to-reach areas. I also used brown and orange color pencil to make smudges of soil/mud and rust.

Like in my Star Destroyer model, I used a sky blue color pencil to shade the engine exhaust their signature color.

The burn marks on the ship's engines are made also by pencil, though comparing to the actual ship in the movies, the shading was a little too excessive. Consider that my personal touch. :D

The model kit includes the decals and also require delicate handling while attaching them. You might want to have a pair of tweezers for these little devils. Also, it's preferable to attach them before assembling all the parts together. The decals lose their adhesiveness with repeated application and removal, so try not to make too many mistakes. ;)

The pencil shading reveals the impressive detail done by Bandai for the Millennium Falcon, especially of this small scale.

The kit includes the display stand which the same as the Star Destroyer's.

Assembling and "painting" this model took a strenuous nine hours to complete! But the effort was all worth it! This is definitely the best Star Wars model in my collection, not only because it's the saga's hero ship. This is recommended for those who can't afford the +$60 1/72 scale of Bandai, though the larger scale has more decals, an open-window cockpit, and optional landing gear pieces.

My focus right now in my collection is Eaglemoss' Star Trek Starships Collection (the Star Wars saga's rival :D), so I'm not sure if I will be able to purchase more ships in this toy line. I already have more than 20 ships in my Star Trek collection, so stay tuned for my reviews on those.
