Toy Review: Bandai 001 Star Wars Star Destroyer Model Kit

For this blog, I will be reviewing the Star Destroyer Model Kit from Bandai. Bandai's toys are known for their super accurate details, even those as small as the thickness of your fingernail. The model itself is based on the Imperial-II class Star Destroyers seen in Star Wars Episodes V and VI. Its difference from its Imperial-I (from Episode IV and Rogue One) predecessor is the communications tower found between the two domes of the ship's superstructure. The Imperial-I class has a taller tower than the Imperial-II class.

The completed model is almost 4.5 inches in length. The pieces only need to be snapped in place, so no glue is needed. The base color already captures the Imperial Star Destroyer's white-colored hull. I'm not good at painting models, but I used a pencil and lightly traced the raised hull segments and panels to emphasize the details. For a more dirtier, more detailed look, a model wash can be used. If you're not confident in doing the details, you can depend on the lighting angle. The shadows reveal more of the detail.

I used a sky blue color pencil to give the blue color glow of the engines.

More close-ups. The raised dots are about the size of a pinhole, showing Bandai's attention to detail for such a small model.

Visible on the underside, on the ship's main reactor, is a hole for the display stand's peg.

Minute details are also visible in the Star Destroyer's launch bay.

The display stand also requires assembly and can be laterally rotated.

In comparison with Hot Wheel's USS Vengeance from Star Trek Into Darkness. It looks like they are to scale with each other, since, in universe, the USS Vengeance is only 200 meters shorter than the Imperial Star Destroyer. ;)

The model is excellent in every way and it only costed me $8. All Star Wars model kits in this scale share the same price. Its simple appearance only takes less than 30 minutes to assemble, not including the time for painting/detailing. In the coming reviews, I will be reviewing the First Order TIE Fighter Set and the legendary Millennium Falcon.
