According to the new statistics of @elyaque (https://steemit.com/stemmit/@elyaque/steem-report-september-5th) we have a total of 84,107 users on Steemit.com.
Looking at those 84,107 users only 4,500 users have been online in the last 24 hours. In the last seven days about 12,000 users have been active on Steemit which tells that every seventh user on Steemit.com is active.
What about the other 72,000 accounts? Disappointed people, angry about not getting paid thousands of dollars for their first post? People on vacation? Second or third accounts of users? People who saved a special account name?
Looking at startups there is a simple formula: Grow as fast as you can! Gain attention and gain users!
Also the dev team has seen that we have some problems here.

I don't understand why people don't recommend Steemit to other poeple without bounty. The more people there are here on Steemit the more they profit anyways.
ok but the thing about posting on steem is that it can be really frustrating when your posts don't get paid and sometimes get flagged
